Math Question

Ok.

Can anyone tell me, besides Algebra 080, why would Jellopony need to know what the absolute value of  -|-5|  is???

I know I need to know for class, but it always helps if I can apply things to real life. 
(Probably why fractions arent scary..that whole cooking thing you kno)
