I totally agree. If I like something, I'll leave a kudo. If I have more to say, I'll comment too. Occasionally I'll bookmark, but it's pretty rare.
The individual chapter thing bugs me a little. I have yet to post a WIP, but some people post series as a bunch of chapters. You can comment on individual chapters, but you have to leave kudos for the whole thing. What if I want to kudo every chapter? I have to comment on every chapter?
I don't understand people who think they shouldn't leave a comment or kudo because a piece already has so many.
0.o. I only got into fandom almost 2 years ago. Before that, LJ was just a social thing for me. I always replied to comments, so when I see fics where there are no replies to comments, I don't comment. Actually, I was confused about reviews on ff.net and if I should reply to them because replies are in the form of PMs which confused the heck out of me.
Am I making any sense?

I'm not going to copy your third paragraph, but just WORD. Yeah. I don't really care who sees what I comment on, like, kudo, etc. I just do what I like. I'm kind of on the outskirts of fandom, I feel. Maybe. Fandom is my happy place and I don't look for ways to make it more exciting.
