More thoughts about feedback

Oct 19, 2012 09:45

Someone posted this week about kudos and comments on AO3.  It lead to some very interesting conversations.  That post is locked, unfortunately.  I would love to talk to you all about kudos and comments on AO3.

More than one person thought kudos and comments were equivalent, so if they left a comment, they wouldn't leave kudos.  I was fascinated by that idea.  If I'm leaving a comment, I definitely leave kudos.  Someone else mentioned that they know someone who hates it when people leave kudos (because they only want comments?).  Another user mentioned that she leaves kudos sparingly.

Another thing that came up was cross-platform contamination (if you will).  Like, people don't want features from FB or (I don't even know any other platforms to mention a feature, actually) to leak over to LJ/DW.  Personally, I have a love/hate relationship with the "like" feature on FB.  I love it when I can just click "like" on a post to say "hey, that was cool" and I also use it to end conversations (I'll "like" the last comment).

So. um. Yeah. I may end up locking this post too, but for now, I'd like to leave it open.  Thoughts?

ETA: apparently some people also count bookmarks in the positive tally column.  And then there is ff.net (which is still a huge enigma) where people follow or favorite stories as well as review, but not all those show up on the page where fics are listed.
