Denial is a powerful thing force.  (I am so going to write a fic with that as the title.  Would love to see what others do with this concept too.  Posting it on writingcafe on Friday too, just so you are forewarned:)) (Overheard on this Diane Rehm show.) So I boycott FB because I don't like the social pressure with it. If you friend one you have to friend all. If you friend people from work you can't refuse to friend the rest of your co-workers. But then you can't say what you want anymore and so on.

I think FB is great to stay in touch with people - especially when they're spread everywhere in the world but for complaining and whining and generally saying what you think without any boundaries it's no the right medium. I wouldn't use it for fandom related things. Too many people I don't want to know about it have access to FB or can easily get access to it.

Often I feel a bit left out when friends tell me about friends and what they heard or read about them at FB. But I always comfort myself with the thought that my friends who are on FB can tell me about these news;P

I tend to boycott all kinds of social media. FB, StudiVZ (which is kind of the little german brother of FB), WKW (another german FB brother) etc. The only thing I have another account besides LJ/DW is Xing. And that's only because of work. I got a couple of clients via it so it was worth it. But I don't like the fact that I have an account there which all kinds of people can see. Of course it's resricted but still...

It's a little bit schizophrenic to openly boycott FB (and everything else) but to secretly have an LJ account. But for me these are two completely different areas. LJ is my fandom home - of course I also tell you much about my personal life but I started it from the beginning for my fandom obsessions and as a place to meet other crazy fans. FB is something which is more connected to my RL and therefore something I don't want. Is this understandable?

Yep. I'm totally with you. 100%, although LJ started as a personal thing for me and has only recently become fandom centered:D I can't separate one part of my brain from the next, so you all have to see it all (of course I don't expect everyone to respond to everything I post though).
