What Lola said.

Or you could paste it to wordpad and then copy and paste to LJ in the rich text tab.

I had a lot of problems when I started posting on LJ with the communities not liking my formatting. It took me a while to get it right.

Thanks. I'm going with the HTML solution and seeing if that works. I don't know why they are so strict about exactly what font you use. I am not sure I have wordpad.

Wordpad or notepad. Either one works. They are usually standard on most computers.

I don't know why they are that strict either but I had a long conversation about it once as they tried to walk me through the whole HTML thing. I finally ended up just copying one of someone else's posts with all the author/rating/word count etc and then filled it in with my info in the LJ box rather than using Word first. Unfortunately Word puts all these extra things in and it drives me crazy.

I was copying straight from gdocs and both times they asked me to change to the default font (which they don't say what it is).

The trouble with copying someone else's info and then cutting and pasting is that the RTE is all wonky now and it doesn't work so great:(

I think I got it figure out, more or less. It just bugs me that I'm getting dinged on font and other people post and they don't even have the requested format.

I'm going to bed now. Gotta get up early to walk. Go health:P

I pretty much always have to paste text into Notepad and then recopy it before putting it into any kind of content management system -- otherwise, it tries to replicate the formatting, which seldom works out well. Pasting into Notepad, copying it, and then pasting it strips out all the formatting.

If you're using Windows, you can get the Notepad by going to the All Programs list and looking under Accessories. I have a shortcut for it in the quicklaunch section of the tool bar, because I use that and the calculator constantly.
