so as it turns out, people actually still read this thing even after all these months of silence. namely teep and jackie so i'll have to be extra careful not to reveal my deepest darkest secretes to the internet at large and by extension people i know in real life.
my house does suck though. turns out our chimney leaks. it was pouring today and there was water dripping into the pile of newspapers and other crap that currently occupies the hearth. the flue closer thingie is apparently rusted as fuck and when we open it for the first time a few weeks ago to have a fire inside, the area next to the hinges must have corroded enough to leave two small holes. well at least we dont have to venture outside to hear the pitter patter of raindrops.
also my roommates suck. well i take that back. its mainly ken, and mainly the hole he kicked in the wall for absolutely no reason that's pissing me off. also he's responsible for persuading people to effect the complete destruction of our kitchen cabinet door. apparently he totally wrote off his deposit the moment he signed the lease but i didn't god dammit and now i'm not gonna get any of it back. fuck that kid. seriously.
i made $150 yesterday so that was cool. i got a call from eric laurent during hike night and he easily convinced my drunk ass to cover for youth minister fred at relay for life while he spent the afternoon at the beer fest downtown with his gf. he said he'd give me $50 to supervise the youth from 11-4 while he was away. i definitely earned my money. i showed up at panther creek high school (a 30 min drive from raleigh) at 11 hungover as shit from the hike expecting to sit at a table or something for several hours. little did i realize that my tasks would involve walking over 20 laps around the track in the sweltering heat and blistering sun in solidarity with those raising money for the cure for cancer. it was all i could to chug cup after cup after cup of cold water to try and alleviate my debilitating hangover. i played some ultimate with some high school kids in the field while i wasn't walking laps in fred's stead. doing that barefoot is prolly why my feet hurt the next day, that and walking 400 yards barefoot on a hot black rubberized track. after that i sprayed axe on myself to cover the smell of sweating alcohol in the sun for 5 hours and changed into a white button down shirt and long black pants right in front of my car for my next gig. i really had to test my car's limits in an attempt to make it from the chatham county side of cary to south garner in 30 min to be a bartender at some rich guy's back yard barbecue by 4:45. it was a much easier job than i thought it would be and i got paid $100 at the end of the night for my 4.5 hours of work. it was this guy Jimmy Jackson's hunters club's annual cook out and i was the bartender. jimmy is a member at eagle ridge where ken is the restaurant manager so that's how i got the gig. they let me eat dinner with the guests, which was amazing by the way. roasted duck wrapped in bacon, fried pheasant fingers (like chicken tenders), marinated quail halves, and great side dishes. all i did the whole night was stand at a cloth covered table and serve people liquor drinks and wine from Jimmy's liquor cabinet. "Hello sir/madam what can i get you" "i'll have some of that scotch/rum/gin/ right there with some ginger ale/coke/tonic/sprite/etc" "coming right up". a monkey coulda done that job. and i got paid $100 and a free dank ass dinner. fine by me.
