Mercy and truth

"He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished." Proverbs 17:5b

This reminded me of Job's friends. Job cried out to them, "Have pity on me, have pity on me, O you my friends" (Job 19:21) but they did not. They felt that Job had earned disaster, but that they were safe in their nests on high. It brings to mind the Pharisee's prayer in Luke 18. May the Lord guard my heart and keep me humble, that I would be merciful and truthful to those around me, no matter what their circumstance.

"In mercy and truth
Atonement is provided for iniquity;
And by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil." Proverbs 16:6

"...God shall send forth His mercy and His truth." Psalm 57:3
"...Mercy and truth go before Your face." Psalm 89:14
"For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." John 1:17
