The Day of Christ: looking forward to it?

Apr 12, 2013 20:12

I've seen a bumper sticker that says, "Come the rapture, we'll have the earth to ourselves." This is nothing new. The people of old said the same thing to Jeremiah: "Indeed they say to me, 'Where is the word of the Lord? Let it come now!'" (Jeremiah 17:15) But the prophets warn us:

"Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord!
For what good is the day of the Lord to you?
It will be darkness, and not light.
It will be as though a man fled from a lion,
And a bear met him!
Or as though he went into the house,
Leaned his hand on the wall,
And a serpent bit him!
Is not the day of the Lord darkness, and not light?
Is it not very dark, with no brightness in it?" Amos 5:18-20

As Jesus said, "A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." John 12:35-36 "Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, 'I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.'" John 8:12
