Reverent Fear

Nov 29, 2011 18:21

Today on the walk to work, a lightbulb went off in my head. I often hear people use the phrase "fear of man" and think to myself, "but I don't tremble in fear of anyone at the moment." Then, I thought, "But the 'fear of the LORD' refers not just to fear but to the heart's inclination of awe, reverence, need, respect, fear, love, and worship. In that sense, I 'fear men' when I stand in that same posture, with my heart bowed before them and waiting for them to supply all my needs." If that's the case, then I do indeed fear men more than God! Lord, forgive me and direct my eyes back to You, El Shaddai.

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. -Psalm 118:8-9
