Hurrah! A gig I have been looking forward to for ages and a chance to hang out with Liz for a night or so! The big Hundred Reasons adventure started outside Wetherspoons where Liz marvelled at my lack of a coat but I refuse to take a coat to a gig after the fleece incident at the front of a Skunk Anansie gig!
A couple of drinks and some nice chicken, bacon and cheese later we headed off to see what Liverpool was like for gigs anyway. I hadn't been to the 'European City of Culture' since I was like 10, Liz gets dragged there a fair bit by Idy! The train journey was meh, enlivened by Haribo.
Then the shouty people started, there was a drunk guy on the train passed out so of course I fancied taking a picture, he woke up and started shouting "Twat! Fuck! Bastard!" over and over again! Lucky we were about to alight! After almost heading the wrong way, it was a cold 10-15 minute walk, 3 Scouse chimps in a van then screamed at us for no reason! Followed by some fella leering at us in a doorway! Nice people these Scousers!
When we got to the Barfly, there didn't appear to be a stage, it was round the back of the venue. Mark Owen was playing there soon, it is a long way down from Take That! It was roughly a 200-300 capacity place with a sloping Kop around all sides which prevented too much carnage.
The support band were Brigade, who if you haven't heard, are Charlie from Busted's younger brother's band! They were pretty ordinary, I told Liz the singer was 10 years old, she pissed herself and laughter was all the band could hear which mustn't be that encouraging!
For some reason, Scousers cant take a non-verbal piss off either, Liz said some girl felt her up and a bloke invaded her personal space. As well as that, some guy started stroking my hair in an extremely queer way, wankers!
Away from the twats, Hundred Reasons rocked, I loved it at least, their new stuff is different but retains their unique sound. Although some girl took a horrific tumble in the pit, it was fun to bounce around for some of it at least. They played lots of stuff from Ideas Above Our Station including album tracks like the beautiful "Oratorio" and "Drowning" plus "Remmus" from EP2! Woo!
Shame it seems to be being released at a time when rock is being largely ignored. Hope they can spur some kind of media interest in it anyway, it really deserves some.
hundred reasons,
rock
