Spring break was fun. Biggest news.. I bought a house in Boise, Idaho! More on that later.
Friday Kim and I left, and drove straight to Niwot, Colorado, which is about 45 minutes or so north of Denver, near Boulder. Arrived some time around midnight. Nebraska and the first parts of Colorado were very boring. Saturday and Sunday we toured around Niwot and Boulder, met up with a friend of hers from high school. We went to a newer mall called Flatirons and did some shopping. Sunday we met up with a few friends from Iowa State and drove up in the mountains to Nederland, a small town. They have a festival called "Frozen Dead Guys Days" that was going on. Basically, there was a guy that died and is cryogenically preserved in a shed up there. We listened to a short lecture giving the history, but unfortunately didn't get to see the shed where he is housed. It was still pretty interesting to learn about :).
Monday we departed and drove into Boise, Idaho. Wyoming was cold and windy with blowing snow, and very uninteresting scenery. Utah had some nice mountain ranges around Salt Lake City, and Idaho wasn't too bad. Arrived around 9pm or so. Tuesday we went around with the realtor and looked at probably 15-20 houses. Mainly 2-3 bedrooms, and a mix of single family, townhouses, and one condo. Wednesday I narrowed the list to about six, went back and took a second look, and made the decision that night. They countered with a shorter closing date, to which I accepted and signed the paperwork on Thursday. The closing will be some time on or before April 11th, at which time it'll be mine :). The house is a townhouse, but only the garages are attached, so I don't have to worry about noisy neighbors. It is brand new - the previous owners bought it and owned it for three months, then put it back on the market (for a decent profit).
Friday Kim had a short interview with Albertsons for a possible summer internship. They chatted for maybe 15 minutes or so, then the lady called her back within an hour to follow up. They don't currently have a position open, but she'll be at the top of the list if one opens up. Hopefully she'll have that, then we can hang out together for the summer at least. We drove about eight hours and stopped in Rawlins, Wyoming (a.k.a. the middle of nowhere). Saturday we continued on, arriving back in Ames around 10pm or so.
It was a really long week of driving, but we met each others parents, which was fun. A bit awkward at first, but not too bad.
