I went to the range again today. Send 50 rounds 50 yards with my Sig p220 45 cal pistol. At first glance, it looks like I did about as well as last time, which is both consistent and pretty damn good. However I think I actually ended up shooting a little bit better this time ( Read more... )

Were you using the same ammo as last time? Do you have to let that model pistol cool down after several shots?

I was using plain old Magtech target ammo. After every string I run the target home to see how I did (I can't see where my shots landed from 50 yards, even with the target sticker). I guess that gives it a minute or so to cool down, but honestly I don't know if that makes any difference.

Actually, come to think about it, it might make a difference. I've noticed that after shooting a few dozen rounds that it no longer performs combat loads consistently (slamming a new mag into the grip while the slide is locked back, using enough force to release the slide lock and chamber a round in a single action). This may be the result of fouling due to dirty ammo (which Magtech is), or possibly lubrication burn off. I've decided to try a new product called slide-glide. I've heard good things about it, so am curious how it performs. Right now I've got Breakfree CLP on the trigger, trigger-bar, slide lock and decocking lever, and slide-glide on the barrel, hammer, sear, and rails. Anyways, I'm going to hit the range again today, and shoot some ( ... )
