BSG 4.11: 'Sometimes a Great Notion'

Um...

Show is back. Show is more depressing than ever. I love show. Huge, huge spoilers and not very much coherency under here.

- DEE. Oh, poor Dee. I suspected she might die from the beginning of the ep, because I thought it was weird how she was suddenly being featured heavily. It's like everyone is a redshirt right now - you get your last ep in the spotlight and then BAM. Actually seeing her brains go splat on the wall was horrific. Guess Gaeta's really going to go over the edge now (anyone catch his significant eye contact with Hoshi?).

- Final 4 flashbacks! I want more!

- Kara. Ouch. She seemed to be doing the best out of everyone, though - was able to conduct her own funeral and everything. This is probably because all her breakdowns happened in 4.0 and she's all crazied out. Leoben finally realises the hybrid hasn't quite kept him in the loop. He should get together with Laura and they can commiserate together about their failed prophecies (or are they...?).

- Three! Don't go! I love you! Don't trust the sixes and eights to run the show, they'll just screw everything up again like always.

- Bill and Saul. Apart from demonstrating Adama's penchant for asking people to shoot him, AGAIN, this was a pretty amazing scene with some pretty amazing acting.

- The direction and editing in this episode were superb. The colours of Earth were perfect - esp. in Kara's scenes where her eyes were so big and dark against the paleness of her skin, hair and the landscape. The cutting was excellent. Thumbs up. Also, Bear McCreary was great again, but that kind of goes without saying.

And not to forget...

ELLEN.

Well.

I thought I would hate it if it was her. But I don't. The reason? The little thing she says to Saul in the flashback - 'we will be reborn. Together'. I'm speculating that the FF used something like the technology from 'Caprica' (the show) - some sort of AI downloading technology - to ensure their survival. For what purpose, I have no idea. Maybe one of them was part of the original plan, and then insisted that their spouse had to be saved too. I really like that idea, and I can see now how Ellen fits in. Although I do still think it lessens the tragedy of 'Exodus' somewhat if she reappears.

The whole thing raises more questions though - are the 7 models based on Earth people too? Where do the colonials fit in? Human=cylon and cylon=human? And who/what/where the hell are the Lords of Kobol? I have read mixed reactions so far - lots of 'WTF?!' - and I fear that we will lose a lot of people as the show gets darker, and the plot is resolved in ways that people might not agree with. So far, however, I'm totally on board.
