People don't trust people who give out free stuff like that. They're afraid of ending up on mailing lists and the like. Now that I'm in Boston, I see people daily just completely blow off and ignore (not even acknowledging the existence of) people handing out free newspapers, reminders to vote, information about new T policies, just about anything. It astounds me the way people can act toward each other. Don't get discouraged, though, I have faith in you!
Well I don't know how freaked out people are at getting free stuff. Usually I'm most skeptical when it's something online, because usually they want credit card information. On the phone I would probably be just as reserved, if I actually listened to those calls for more than two seconds. But in person, free stuff is fine! Perhaps in Boston people don't like free papers, but in NYC I'm more than happy to grab my freebie of AM New York (a more enjoyable paper than the Long Island Press if you ask me). This doesn't mean I'll grab fliers from everybody on a street corner, if for no other reason than clutter issues. Well, that and because those usually aren't giving you anything free aside from information
