Neglected Blog is Neglected

Sorry for the delay folks... it's been a long week and a half or so.

I survived five tests and a number of other random shenanigans in the last week.  Yes, survived is the best word for it.  A quick rundown:

Anatomy Final: Walked out of there just hoping for a passing grade (around here, that's a 70%).  Final score, 70.7% on a test the majority failed.
Anatomy Practical: Felt really good about it, but that was apparently false confidence, as I barely passed that one, too (72%).
OSCE: A graded patient encounter and patient history note.  While they didn't grade this, I've done pretty well on these, and this one felt good, too.
OMM Take-Home Midterm: The kindest and gentlest of the lot.  Worked through it, then measured my answers with Meredith and Emilia & Co., winding up with a 92%.
OMM Practical: Completely missed crazy dysfunction in my partner (tip: if he can't touch his hands over his head without bending his elbows, don't say he's fine).  Got a 78%, but more importantly, I'm now worried about my ability to do OMM.  Looking into getting a tutor.

...it was a long week.

The weekend, on the other hand, was much-improved.  My practical ended on Friday morning, so I did breakfast with some classmates, lunch with Nicole (and briefly Wes), and met up with Brian at a sports bar to watch the Giants-Braves series (which was of course the one game they lost).

Saturday was also fun- met up with yamikonumber7 at the ESPN Zone in Downtown Disney for lunch (she was of course keeping tabs on the Air Force game).  In the evening, Delilah got a group together to go clubbing in Newport Beach.  If any of you SoCal kids find your way down there, Club 8eighty8 is pretty cool.  Or at least it was until it got too packed to move.  I do love dancing (and was able to do so earlier in the evening), but standing around in a tight-packed crowd with techno music and cigarette smoke everywhere begins to stretch my definition of a good time.  Still, the classmates involved were great company, and the evening on the whole was pretty fun.  There were also adventures at Denny's afterward when one drunken classmate (who shall remain nameless) began hitting on a Japanese lady in her late fifties (read: cougar) in the parking lot and invited her to come eat with us.  Cue the rest of us laughing as he came out of his haze about every ten minutes and frantically casting what-the-heck-am-I-doing glances at us.  Good times.

Sunday and Monday (hooray Columbus Day off!) were spent theoretically being productive.  That translated to relaxing until about 10 PM Monday, then frantically getting started on Head and Neck studying for Tuesday.  Some things never change...

Speaking of Head and Neck, it seems to be off to a good start.  It's basically exactly the same as Anatomy, as far as I'm concerned.  Hopefully I can figure out how to be more productive this week, and get ahead on studying- I want to know my stuff by the weekend so that I can actually help other people learn it.  It's also interesting being in lab, now that we're working on the cadavers' faces every day.  It's... not quite unnerving.  Every day I step into lab, I acknowledge to myself that this is a human being I'm working with, and try to say a quiet thank you every day when I leave.  But nothing changes how those eyes look at you when you've removed the eyelids.  Blank, but unflinching.  Watching what you do to his body.  We're having a memorial service for the cadavers in a couple of weeks- I'm looking to get involved.

Led a Bible study/sermon-type thingy for the Christian club at lunch today.  It looks like we have a good group of people who are excited to help each other and our fellow students.  We'll see how that all works out with our respective schedules, but I'm excited to see what God's going to do here this year.

Finally, in terms of things distracting me right now... AHAHAHA BASEBALL.  The Yankees advanced to the ALCS, and will face the Rangers starting Friday.  The Giants advanced to the NLCS, and will face the Phillies starting Saturday.  I repeat: both of my teams are four wins away from the World Series.  Holy crap this is awesome.  I guess I have until Friday to be as productive as possible.  Also, I finally got Kratos rolling in xi_rpg , doing threads with Lloyd, Anna and Alfred (?).  It's pretty exciting.  I also stupidly took it upon myself to do a quick canon review on him... by playing through a game clocked at 80+ hours of gameplay.  Someone please remind me why I'm doing this.

I have written too much on wildly unrelated subjects, as evidenced by the tag list below.  Back to pretending I'm studying!

tests, destination procrastination, med school, shoot me now, friends, video games, giants, yay jesus, good times, roleplaying, xavier institute, baseball, yankees
