OOM: Fel Residence, Csilla

Jan 07, 2007 23:03

There has been something bothering Jaina Fel for days now. At first she thought it was simply a case of the the Dantari flu, which according to Jag, had been spreading around the base the past couple of days. But she even with taking the prescribed bacta, and those odd little pink pills Bar provided her when she went to Milliways the other day, ( Read more... )

Eventually, the whine of repulsorlifts can be heard in the garage, and muffled cursing as Jag steps out of the speeder and trips over a helmet that has fallen off its peg.

"Jaina!" he calls as he walks in, hanging his coat on a peg near the door. "I'm home!"

She hears the swearing and the crash all the way from her chair in the living room and laughs quietly to herself.

Normally, Jaina would get up and dash to the hallway to give him a hug. But she knows the minute she gets up, the room will spin again. Instead, she settles for a shout.

"About time you vapin' got here, Jagged!"

He loosens more bits of uniform as he makes his way to the living room. "My apologies, dearest," he says as he leans down to give her a kiss.

There's a nod to the blanket she's wrapped up in. "Are you feeling cold?"

"A little," Jaina responds as she sneaks one hand out of the blanket to grasp his.

She gives him a rueful smile and then nods towards the couch. Carefully, she gets up from the chair to lead him over to a seat, the blanket wrapped around her shoulders like a poncho. After Jag sits, Jaina joins him, resting her head on his shoulder.

"I don't have the flu, Jag."

Jag slips a comforting arm around her shoulders. "That's good news," he says cautiously, then (because over the years he has learned to read her moods) "What do you have?"

He braces himself for her answer, hoping he's guessed wrong.

Jaina frowns and looks down at the floor and the dirty track marks Sneaky had been leaving around through out the day. He must be dripping oil again; she'll have to fix him at some point.

"I know we didn't discuss this, and I swear I didn't plan it, Jag," she says softly. "Don't be angry?"

Jag frowns. This is not quite the answer he was expecting. Be angry? There aren't many deadly diseases in the galaxy that need apologizing for, and even fewer that one discusses with their partner.

"Jaina, what's wrong? Are you sick?"

"I'm not sick," Jaina answers quickly, looking back up at him. She pulls the blanket tighter around her shoulders and shrugs against his chest. Ignoring the point was never her style.

"I'm pregnant."

He's so relieved at the first sentence that he almost misses the second.

Blink. Surely she didn't say...

"You're what?"

Oh Force. She can't figure out the look on his face, and she takes a deep breath, looking up at him.

"I'm not sick and I'm not dying. All this," Jaina says, gesturing mostly to the blanket, "has been because your kid has already decided to wreck havock on my body."

She doesn't know if she could put it any more blunt than that.

Okay, he did hear right the first time.

It takes four or five seconds for Jag to realize he's holding his breath, and he exhales noisily, then breaks into a sudden grin. "We're going to have a baby?"

That grin - that's a good sign. She nods (maybe a little too fast, what with that sudden wave of dizziness) and lets out a relieved and happy laugh.

"Yeah, Jag. A baby. Our baby."

He runs a hand through his hair, trying to get a handle on his emotions. All it manages to do is mess up his hair and nearly start him laughing.

Imagine it! A baby! Of their own!

"So... when? I mean, how far along are you? Have you spoken to a doctor yet?"

Kriff, what are they going to name the child? They'll have to set up a nursery, child-proof the house... so much to do!

Jaina chuckles as Jag messes up his hair and then reaches out from under the blanket to straighten it. He'll have to get it cut soon, she notes, before he starts to resemble a scruffy looking nerf-herder. Just like her mom always used to call her father.

We're going to have a family of our own soon. The thought makes her smile as she settles back into his arms, feeling safe, and even more so, content for the first time in weeks.

"I just figured it out today, flyboy," she says with a rueful grin. "And you needed to be the first to know."

He squeezes an arm around her protectively. "I appreciate it, love. Next on the list is our families, and then a good doctor."

And then he's going to have to figure out something with the CDEF. Some kind of leave so he can be around to help take care of their baby and Jaina, at least for the first... months. Years? Is it time for a career change, perhaps? Something that will leave him more time for family...

He feels like he's spinning in freefall-- it's a dizziness that might give way to panic if he lets it, but there's too much excitement for that right now.

Families. Something like this means that they'll have to tell her parents and the Baron and Syal. Oh kriffing Force, she'll have to tell her father that his baby girl is going to have her own baby.

He'll never let Jag near her again.

Despite all her bravery, Jaina suddenly pales. Sithspit, Force dammit!
