That time of year again and that means it’s time for the Metropolis Superman Celebration. I went a day later than usual this year and missed the Superman 4 Mile Road Race but it was because the wife and I had tickets to see Hamilton so I wasn’t too broken up. I headed up Friday and saw all the usual suspects and tried all the usual fried fair food. This year the weather was pretty cooperative. Cooler with clouds and the occasional drizzle. Friday I even pulled out my Commissioner Gordon cosplay and was quite the hit with the other Gothamites wandering the streets. I even found a Rene Montoya, that’s even rarer to see in the wild than a Commissioner Gordon. I got invited to a Gotham photo shoot for Saturday but that was a rain out. Saturday I got my celebrity autographs and even hung around for the Q&A’s this year. Sunday before I left I shaved my head, put on my 3 piece suit, grabbed my Kryptonite and went out as Lex Luthor for about an hour before leaving town. I had planned to do Lex Saturday but between my Gotham invite and the rain I wasn’t able to. I had brought all that Lex stuff with me (including extra trimmers and razors) so I wanted to get some use out of it, even if it was only for a short time.
I never made it to the Super Museum or other favorite events this year but I shifted more time to cosplay and celebrity activities. When you go (nearly) every year it’s good to change things up and keep it fresh. Before I went this year I was really wondering how many years I would continue to go to Metropolis but after a relaxing and fun weekend I feel ready for and am looking forward to the next couple of years at least.
