Day 24: Couple you like, but is overshadowed by another couple in a fandom
Should I take this as overshadowed ‘because fandom at large prefers something else,’ or because ‘yeah I like it but I ship this other pairing SO MUCH more’? I think I’ll probably using whatever version I feel like at any given time, but will try and avoid complaining about ships I wish were canon but aren’t.
I like Chris/Shaz on Ashes to Ashes but I and fandom tend to focus more of Alex/Gene because they’re a lot more central to the story.
I pretty much like all the ships in Avatar (tLA), canon and a decent chunk of non-canon, but the only one I’d come close to saying I ship is Aang/Katara.
Pretty much everything in Babylon 5 pales next to John/Delenn. I may wish Ivanova/Marcus could have gotten something going, I may respect Garibaldi/Lise ending up together, I may have had hopes for Lyta/Zack, I may even toy with a few non-canon ships in my head just for funzies; but nothing else in this verse matters to me like J/D by a long way.
I do like pretty much all of Willows possible ships on Buffy. But I would never put any effort into fandoming any of them because y Buffy fandom energy all went into Buffy/Giles.
There are some Farscape ships I like, but next to John/Aeryn none of them matter as much. And that’s pretty much the way the show and fandom act too. While less true of fandom or the show (at this point), there are some ships I kinda sorta like on Doctor Who, but next to Doctor/Rose it barely counts.
I do ship Neville/Ginny in HP fandom too, but not nearly as much as Harry/Hermione
I have a somewhat awkward relationship with Star Trek fandom and shipping I ship the stuff that’s more or less popular on the TNG/DS9/kind of Voyager side of fandom, but I do not ship Kirk/Spock when it comes to TOS/Reboot. So my Odo/Kira love is kind of overshadowed by ST fandom at large, but not really within the DS9 subset for example. But I do ship reboot Kirk/McCoy which is overshadowed by the stupid Kirk/Spock thing.
Pretty much anything on SGA is overshadowed by my feelings for SG1 (but I also don’t ship the stuff that seems most popular on either show but especially SGA).
I have ships in TVD that I like but don’t love (Bonnie/Jeremy, Damon/Katherine for a couple examples) but I don’t commit to them unless I *really* love them and the only ones I truly committed to were Elena/Elijah and Elena/Matt.
