Well I should clarify that I liked River Song in spite of Moffat rather than because of. IMO he wrote two great episodes (The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances) and three above-average episodes (Blink and the two you didn't like) and otherwise has not really proven that he can run the whole show, in my view. I definitely don't understand why all of fandom is lining up to lovingly tongue-bathe his dick on the strength of creepy angels and a creepy kid in a gas mask. And though I liked his s4 episodes, they had way too much of a tendency I don't like in Doctor Who, which was when it turns into "teh lonely god omgz0rz" instead of "wacky time travels with your crazy uncle."

I've also noticed Moffat's sexist tendencies (particularly in The Girl In The Fireplace which I strongly disliked) and I hope they don't get all over the show too. )c:

For me, the biggest problem with River Song as a Companion is that the function of Companions is to do stupid things and be in jeopardy so the Doctor can save them. I liked her as a character and thought she was the only believable love interest yet for the Doctor precisely because she didn't do that in what we saw of her. That's the reason why Rose/Ten will never do anything for me as a ship - the power differential between the two of them really squicks me, and I also remain decidedly unconvinced that Time Lords can even have sex in the same way humans would (which also keeps me from shipping Ten/River Song more actively than I do).

I loved TEC/TDD back when they first aired but since then...I've started to see Moffat's issues even there. I have a good deal of hatred for TGitF too, just not as much as the season 4 eps. And I viwe Blink as a pretty average episode, scary but that's not a primary determination for whether I like episodes or not. Moffat writes witty dialog and scary monsters (usually) but that's about all I can say for him.

Although I still think Moffat sexism is better hidden in s1, since then it's become a glaring thing of glares. But I still count the end of FotD the worst example of it because obviously ALL WOMEN WANT BABIES seems to be the message.

I could go into a bit of Rose/Doctor ramble, but I'm not quite in the mood. Suffice it to say in my opinion *she* the one with all the emotional power in their relationship balancing out his Time Lord intellect. And since the Doctor is always going to be the smartest person around (unless it's someone like Romana) the balance has to be in other ways. But that's another rant, that I'm sure I've gone on before, just not recently.
