Hey,
I haven't written since March so I thought I should write an update about how life's going. For the most part it's going really well. Work is getting easier and better. My kids are awesome but I wish I could give them more time and attention. When I found out I got this job I was really worried about how well I could teach this particular class. They have a lot of needs. Turns out they're awesome and I like them all so much more than I did when I was just their substitute. They're geeks. They're creative. They care about the environment. But a lot of them have self-esteem issues and social issues and learning issues. They seem to be doing much better too. Even a few teachers have commented on how they seem calmer and happier. Yay!
That said, in two months I have to have them ready to go to Middle School and I'm concerned for how well they'll cope with that. They're very young in a lot of ways and I worry about some of the things they'll have to face in Middle School. We've been talking about it a lot, ways to deal with bullies and drug dealers and peer pressure etc.
I also found out that there will be a grade 4 English position opening up at my school for next year! I'm trying not to get my hopes up but that would be a really awesome job. That would be the class that I teach for Social Studies this year. They're not an easy class by any means, but it is a small class and at least I already know them and know what to expect. I would love to stay at CSS next year.
I'm getting married in one month! Hard to believe! Things are going okay. We still seem to have a lot to do, but at the same time we're getting a lot done. I tried to book my hair appointment today and found out that hairdressers don't work on Sundays. Luckily I found one who may be able to do it either at her home or at the shop. She hasn't called me back yet though. If not, I guess we're doing our hair ourselves, which I'm okay with but I know Sarah really wants to have her hair done by someone.
Food seems to be the other thing that we're having difficulty with. Our caterer hasn't gotten back to us with a price and a final menu yet. I e-mailed her last weekend, trying to get things going. That seemed to help for a while. There were a lot of e-mails back and forth working out details and then she stopped e-mailing me. Hopefully she'll get back to me soon.
I picked up my wedding ring tomorrow. Tony's should be in next week. We also have to go get our marriage licence this week. That should be fun! And I have to start making the masks and boutonnières, the one kind of crafty thing I'm doing. It's hard with cats. A lot of the stuff is things that they like to chase and eat so I have to work on them when they're asleep. I also need new beads for Sarah and Kat's necklaces. And I need to find stuff to put in my hair. Have to decide on a style too. So much to do, only a month to do it!
