I had a brain flash this morning in, of course, the shower, where I get my best brain flashes. We've been really struggling with the idea of having a theme for our wedding. Colours just weren't doing it for us. Sure we could pick colours and go with that but it wouldn't really be "us" it would just be some colours we like.
We considered a few different ideas. We both like looking at stars so I thought of a "night time garden" theme might work, especially since we're getting married in a THEATRE. And we considered an "entertainment" theme since one of the big things we want to do is make sure no one is bored when we get married in a THEATRE. And we've been thinking about how we can decorate it since it's a black box THEATRE and all the walls are black with a few THEATRE posters on one wall and THEATRE lights.... I think you can probably guess where I'm going with this.
We're going with a theatre theme :) So we've been thinking of ways to incorporate this theme. Things like on our website (that is just barely started) we'll have bios done in a playbill style like "the part of the bride is being played by Jeannie who has appeared in such roles as bridesmaid #2 and maid of honour in previous weddings." We can also make up our program to look like a theatre playbill with Act 1 being the ceremony, followed by a brief intermission before Act 2, the reception.
This theme fits us very well. I have a Bachelor degree in Drama and Tony is a musician. One of our first dates was going to a very odd play together. I feel a lot more excited about planning now that we have this decided. Onwards and upwards!
