Work Christmas Party

Well, last night we had our work Christmas party.  My first "work" related party in Germany.  I know, I've been here now 3 years, you'd think I would have been to one already.  The gravestone people do not seem to have a party, either that, or I am not invited.  And last year, I never made it to the factory party because I didn't have a ride.

So, this year I made it there.  And what a disappointment!  I say that, because I guess I am comparing last night's party to those I went to in America.  First, the only thing that looked Christmasy, was the 1 Christmas tree in the back room of the bar.  It's only decorations were white bulbs.  Boring!  The boss gave a 20 minute speech about how things were bad these past 6 months and how the beginning of next year should be better.  "Can't get worse now, can it!?!"  Anyway...we survived the speech...it was ok!

The buffet was not typically German, but edible.  I tried a little of everything, including the fish.  Beer, soda and water were free, and I had my share with 7 beers, at least.

The most interesting part was that the boss sat right next to me and asked me if I had ever been to South Carolina, where the home office is...yes...but not to that specific town.  He did speak a little English with me...until one of my friends mentioned "foreigners" and he spoke German again.  Thanks Steffi!!  For at least half an hour, he spoke to us personally and that was nice.

All in all, a bit disappointed.  The only Christmas gifts we got were little Lindt Santa Clauses.  Last year they got actually gifts.  Oh well!  I guess I would have preferred a Christmas bonus rather than a meal.  Too bad I didn't bring any Tupperware with.  Could have brought home some fixins for Christmas.  Ha ha
