Dear Broadway
Dear Broadway,
I know times are tough and it's hard to get funding for new shows or to keep other shows open. I know people are less willing to spend money on entertainment now (hence the spot on SNL sketch yesterday). But did we really need to spend $40 million on Shrek the Musical? Now I understand the name will put people in the seats. And that kids will enjoy seeing the green ogre in person. And that the cast you have put together is stellar. As are the sets and costumes (and, the score isn't half bad). But the show isn't better than the movie.
Frankly, the show wasn't worth the $62.50 I paid for it (thankfully half price). And I'm kinda pissed I paid that much. And a song about burping and farting, while funny to the little kids, doesn't really belong in a Broadway musical. Sorry.
Please, please, please stop making cartoons into musicals (unless they are based on Anatasia).
