Masters degree

I generally hate trying to post to LJ using my iPhone, but today I'll make an exception. Earlier today, I walked across the stage to cheers of my name and received my Masters degree. There are a few things I am bitter about, but my mother and stepfather together really made a wonderful day. for which I am grateful.

I wish I had realized the Masters regalia is so different from the Bachelors. You know, it's a black robe, the same as I've worn for other ceremonies. Uhhhhhh WRONG. I would have looked at it beforehand. But since I've graduated before I thought it would be the same. I wore a wrist corsage, made in my school and discipline colors, bc I thought it was a better option than a pinned corsage as I had worn for undergrad, or carrying a squashed bouquet layer. Not realizing the Masters gown has those funny sleeves. Bad idea just FYI. Masters degree -- weird robe! And the hood! My gown did not have the button in front to attach the cord for the hood. And since I am not a phd I did not have the cape to keep it in place. Short story, the damn thing was choking me all day. Now I know how men feel when forced to wear tuxedos with ties. I also thought, being Jan and bitter, I should dress warmly. Am glad I was advised to not wear my bolero jacket with my dress bc I WAS SWELTERING even in my sleeveless sheath dress. Felt real sorry for those in sweaters. Or men in full suits!!! But I got my 3 inches of velvet trim as specified.

It was simultaneously super uncomfy yet did not want to take it off until all pics were taken. Got some good ones despite the eye rolling. Made sure to wear my hat correctly. And Masters always wear the tassel on the left but my school did ask us to put ours on the rt and then switch sides as we went up the stairs. So I did.

Of course this entry is messed now and can't fix it since am on stupid phone. Will say after reception and pictures went out for a glorious decadent lobster dinner with chocolate martinis. While waiting for a table in the bar, man sat next to me and started chatting. My parents left us alone thinking he was chatting me up but the real story was otherwise. Story for another day. I found it amusing.

Then we came home and had delicious cake and I am now rolling I to bed.

Also have changed my name since last graduation so this time I was in the Bs and one of the first. Odd. Poor girl in front of me, they called her name wrong. I would have stood there until they got it right, dammit.

Unlike my undergrad where they held my diploma hostage for 18 yrs due to an accounting glitch, today they handed me the piece of paper. Have it in my hot little paws and the bill to go with it.
