Push was great!

I'm finally posting about how Push went. I Loved It! I'm so glad the weather conspired to be comfortable instead of burning hot. It was actually slightly cool, especially when it rained some Sat evening. And I am so glad James brought an extra cloak cause I forgot mine. I didn't need it until the rain hit, which held off until most of the activities were past. The naughty show was hysterical. It was a great comedic sketch. We found a really adorable dragon bank that we bought for Jason.

I learned how to do Latvian tablet weaving. I'm a long ways from being good at it, but I've at least learned the basics. Now I'm gonna have to get an inkle loom, because it is hard to keep it tight when just tied to a post and your waist. The cards keep trying to turn if not tight enough. Though in the meantime, I'll find a spring tension clothespin to hold them steady. I'm not sure where I'm gonna be tying the other end right now. I need a comfy place to sit and put tension on it. It is very tiring on the back.

I loved seeing other peoples' garb. Now I'm trying to decide for my persona if I want something British to do the cotehardie and surcoat or something more Serbian. There was another gal there who had a tunic and pants for a Serbian flavor. It looked really comfy and very pretty with the fabric she had picked out. I do have Polish and Lithuanian in my family tree which is sorta close. I'm gonna have to get over to the Main Metro Library here and hit the stacks. I should be able to find some stuff to help me choose. The internet wasn't much help this time. I can't really find find much earlier than when Poland became the country we know today. It certainly didn't exist as the current country during the range of time SCA covers. I may have to snag a librarian to help me figure out how to search for what I need. I'm not really quite sure what sections I should search for culture and garb. I'm glad that unless I'm trying to do a project for judging, I don't have to get anal about fabric, color and style. It works as long as it is reasonably close. Plenty of people had garb in colors and fabrics that weren't really available, but they looked nice. And no one really cared.

I have more ideas for things I may want to study. I may try to get back into music. I have a couple wood flutes and a tin flute. However I'm not good at writing music or improvising on flute. I've only managed to improvise on the tenor sax. And that was when I was still in high school and the rest of jazz band was maintaining the chord progression. There's some other things I want to look into as well like heraldry and such. Now that I've finally made it to an actual event, I'm leaning much more strongly towards SCA and less towards NERO. And not just because of the cost either. It is much more family oriented, and you can even bring your dog to some of the events. There were some cute ones there. I liked how there were kids of several ages and older folks as well. It is really like a community. Unlike NERO, it is something folks can grow up and grow old with.

I'm really glad I went despite the stress of preparing for the event. Poor kidlet didn't get much attention while I was sewing last week. He was really mad at us when we got him home Sunday night. (We'd left him at his aunt's for the weekend.) He kept saying "no way! no go way!" He kept pushing Chris away but didn't want him to go upstairs. I managed to distract him long enough for Chris to go upstairs for a nap. I tried to give him lots of attention. He was much calmer on Monday. We just didn't think he would have been quite old enough for the 3 of us to enjoy him being at Push this year. Next year though he should be fine. Our friends' youngest was 3 1/2 and she did pretty well. We picked up some clothes for him from the swap boxes. After I make a new rendition of the one dress I wore, I'll put it in the swap box next time. I wasn't quite happy with how it turned out, and I have more of that fabric to try it again. That's what you can do when you have a whole bolt of fabric that cost a buck a yard.
