The landscape rushed past them in a blur; Miyavi facing backwards, letting travel-sick Saitoh face in their direction of travel. His manager and best friend fiddled nervously with the bands around his wrists, avoiding nausea.
“Why do we do all of this?” Miyavi asked after a moment, staring moodily out of the window. “No matter how much you do, you’ve always gotta keep trying, huh.”
Saitoh regarded the tattooed man thoughtfully; these moments of introspection worried him, though he felt privileged to be privy to Miyavi’s thoughts. “If you choose a life of music and achieve success, then you must say goodbye to anything approaching a normal life,” he commented, watching brown eyes stare, unseeing. “Because the world won't let you rest, even for a moment.” He looked down at his fingernails. “I suppose that’s why so many musicians die so young.”
Miyavi looked down at the coffee-stained table between them, one corner of his mouth curving up into a humourless, wry grin. “I guess you’re right,” he muttered quietly.
After a moment, though, he looked up with a fresher look to his face and a sparkle in his eye once more. “It’s a good job I’m invincible then, right?”
