Title: The Everyday Life
Author: 1sithlord
Theme: Train
Band/Pairing: Dir en grey
Notes: 800 words. Don't spear me! I didn't mean for it to be that long. It just sort of happened. Anyway, I am thinking of doing a sequel depending on feedback. We'll see.

I was trying desperately to remember why I tortured myself like this. Riding on the train wasn't so bad, but riding on the train with the rest of the band and nowhere to escape to was far worse. Toshiya was talking very animatedly on the phone to someone I didn't know. Die was flirting with some poor girl who was taking in every word he said as if it were gospel. Kaoru was working on some paper work looking very business-like, and Kyo was staring blankly out the window as he smoked a cigarette.

Boredom had a death grip on me, and I was desperate for some kind of distraction. I contemplated trying to pull Die's attention away from the large bosomed girl, but thought better of it when he started to lean in closer. He was really laying it on thick today. I looked over at Toshiya. He was so engrossed in his conversation it would have taken nothing short of a miracle to pull him away from the phone, and there was no talking to Kaoru when he was doing business type stuff.

I sighed dejectedly, and went over the drumbeats for our new song in my head. It wasn't quite the same as working it out on an actual drum set, but it did the trick of keeping me distracted for a while. When nothing had changed after ten minutes, and I was still bored, I turned my attention to Kyo. I usually didn't bother him when he was sitting silently like that, but then again he was usually working on lyrics. He didn't have his writing book out, and he didn't look too engrossed in his thoughts. So, I thought I'd give it a try.

I tentatively scooted a little closer to the window, and just watched him for a minute. He was watching the countryside pass by as if he'd seen it a million times before. His hair was back to the normal blond after having had a short stint as its original black. He had a few new tattoos that were noticeable thanks to his sleeveless white shirt, and his signature ring sparkled on his finger. I hadn't noticed I was scrutinizing his appearance so closely until I heard my name.

"Shinya?" I saw a hand waving in my face, and turned to see Totchi looking confused. "You okay?" he asked while still holding the phone to his ear. I nodded, but he looked skeptical.

"What did you want?" I asked trying to casually change the subject.

"What was the name of that place where you got those custom made drumsticks that you like so much?"

"Crazy Joe's," I answered.

"Crazy Joe's," he repeated back into the phone, and then the conversation continued as if I didn't exist. I watched Totchi mesmerized, then finally turned my attention back to Kyo.

He'd finally snuffed his cigarette, and was running his fingers through his hair absently. He'd such nice hands. I'd always thought that. It was odd to me. He'd such a hardened look to him, but delicate and very beautiful hands. Such a pleasant contrast. He turned and looked at me after a while, and I was surprised when I didn't look away. He leaned back in his seat, and folded his arms behind his head.

"I'm bored. How about you?"

"You have no idea," I replied, "Who would have thought traveling on the train could be so boring."

"What? No puzzles?" he asked.

I shook my head as I looked down at my hands.

"God. Does Toshiya ever get off the phone?"

"Not lately," I replied as I glanced over at him.

Kyo shook his head in an exasperated way then pulled out another cigarette, and lit up. He took a long drag as he looked out the window. Then he looked at me again.

"You look tired," he said.

I shook my head as he took another drag. We stared at each other for a while before he got up and sidled to the door of our compartment.

"Get your ass up. You're coming with me."

I looked at him confused.

"Me?" I asked.

He nodded. So, I got up from my seat and started for the door. Kaoru looked up from his paper work suddenly aware of the real world. "Where are you two going?" he asked as he adjusted the glasses he swore he didn't need.

"To find something more exciting than the everyday life of Dir en grey," stated Kyo matter-of-factly as he pulled me out the door.

I wasn't quite sure what was in store for me, but it had to be more fun than watching Die schmooze some girl while Totchi talked on the phone to God-knows-who, and Kaoru burying himself in a world of paper and pen.
