Folding Markets

My biggest pet peeve in the small publishing field is when markets fold and don't let anyone know. Especially when they have held stories and don't bother to notify the authors.

Yes. It's kind of infuriating.

Right now I'm waiting for a response from a magazine which received the hardcopy of my story (with an SASE) over a year ago. I've already sent one letter asking what's up. Looks like I'll have to send another one (with another SASE). The magazine's website is still up, so far.

A few times, yes. I have story that was the Story of Death. As soon as I sent it to a venue, it folded!

But I've largely stopped submitting to those markets. The lack of professionalism is just not worth it.

I heard about it through a friend who was published in a different anthology of theirs, and it sounded like a great idea. I could have been, but alas, not.

Anthologies are an odd animal... I have yet to find the right story for the right anthology, but I'll keep trying;)
