I'm not the only one, am I? The Movie Edition

Jun 06, 2008 21:36

I'm reading a comment on a news site (probably MSNBC again) where one person is congratulating another for using Mystery Science Theater 3000 as a verb-believe the term was 'MSTing'-and it got me to thinking.  Other people make snarky comments while watching movies?

I'm guilty of this. So very, very guilty of this. Even during movies I like. Only the comments are not in the way most people would think.

They are almost always an anime reference.

Case in point:

Last month, the significant other and I saw Iron Man.  (a most excellent film-go see it if you haven't)  There is a scene towards the beginning where Iron Man is attempting to escape his captors.  One of them points a rifle at him.

The giggling commenced at this point.

Me:  Ricochet
Him:  No, don't shoot...oh man.

Those of you who have never seen ep 5 of Fullmetal Alchemist would never get that.  Those of you who have...yes, we did attempt to say that in Al's voice.

And this isn't the only time I (or both of us) have done this.  I did it during the last Star Wars movie...

(Anakin gets out of bed.  He's shirtless.  And his arm is visible...)

Me: (somewhat loudly to Him)  Nice Arm!
Him:  *snickers*
Me:  ...it is the wrong color, of course.

There have also been references to InuYasha, Eureka Seven, FLCL...the list goes on. And this is what we do to movies we like.

The one's we don't like?  That's when the Batman references come out...

snark, anime, movies, mst3k
