Stairs

I'm trying to decide what to do with the bottom of the stairs.

This is how they looked before (first pic taken when we looked at the house, i.e., not our clutter :P):

We had oak flooring, treads and handrails in version 1.0 of the dream house.

I'm trying to decide if I want the curved rail and rounded step at the bottom or if I want it squared off this time. The spindles/balusters will be square this time instead of the fluted/colonial style. Nothing in Dream House 2.0 is round. Nothing. Not even a curve that I can think of! The round looks more country/old fashioned, I think. I've been trying to go with a more contemporary look. I can't decide, though. Our handrail and treads will be natural hickory (to match the flooring). The spindles will be square and white. The risers between the treads will be white. The steps are 4' wide, if that matters.

I think this squared off version is nice:

Or I could go with a hybrid and do square post/rail, rounded step:

I dream that someday one of my children will want to get married here. I keep imagining a bride walking down those stairs. ;) Or maybe I can rent it out as a wedding venue to help pay for Ethan's school? :P What do you think? Lol. Lots of natural light, great for photos! :P
