House update

Jul 22, 2013 12:31

After nearly a month's hiatus, work began again mid last week. Why a hiatus? Because the workers took vacations and disorganization/not ordering materials early enough for them to arrive before or when they were needed.

Anyway, the house looks mostly like this now. The only difference is there are some temporary support columns on the upstairs porch now.

You can kind of see the temp columns/posts here. It was raining really hard yesterday while we were there.

This is the door from the carport to the mudroom.

From inside. The two doors to the upstairs porch are the same. I wanted all glass, all clear. Scott wanted half glass with grids. This was our compromise.

We have bathtubs! And showers!

I tried to get a pic of this tub to show how big it is, but none of them seem to accurately display it. I knew what size I had ordered (42" x 72"), but I was still surprised at how big it actually was. I love it!

The shower was missing the grab bar. I'm not sure if they'll come out and install one or if we will have to get a new shower.

Small downstairs bath, but we went with a six foot tub to make the room a bit wider.

I had picked out a company that made sturdy tubs, and this was the only regular tub/shower combo they had in the 72" length. I really didn't know what it was like, exactly, inside, but I like it!

Upstairs bath, standard five foot length shower/tub combo.

This is our Quad-Lock foam wrap for the outside of the house. There's a lot of it. Neither the contractor or the Amish subcontractors he employs have ever installed it. The brown boxes contain the installation hardware, or something like that.

It's on the carport"

In the front yard:

And the side yard:

The basement flooded while we were there.

We're going to have to get a sump pump installed asap, even if it's a temporary one to be replaced later. We had one before.

The bridge also flooded. We drove across and the water wasn't even close to going over. Two hours later:

We thought we were trapped because we had driven my car and the key to the back gate was in Scott's truck. After we had called mil to go to the truck and look for the key, I realized I had one! Lol.

They're plumbing again, today. I've already had a phone call about where to put what. I don't have a vanity chosen for the master bath, yet. Well, I do, but it's not exactly what I want so I plan to make an appointment with someone who custom builds them, but I haven't done it. I've been busy! :D
