It's been and icy winter so far... with cold and icy rain and a little snow. But we enjoy nature's beauty...we're just careful when we drive about. Our pond is nearly full for the first time ever. We've had lots of moisture that bodes well for the ground water and for a great spring.
Our Granddaughter Logan is here for a visit and she's helped me prune and plant new grapevine starters. In years to come when the vineyard is flourishing, she'll see the vines she helped start and taste the fruit. We have started both Chambourcin (reds) and Seyval (whites) to add to the existing vineyard. We hope to have 100 new starters. Also, we are going to set in another 100 seedless grapevines. That will bring our vineyard to 800 vines.
We are planning a small orchard this spring, with apples and maybe pears and some cherries.
We are really enjoying our new found rural adventures.
I can hardly wait for the "lazy days" of winter to be over so we can watch the greening of spring.
