long time, no post
It's been forever since I've posted, but I've been fairly busy.
Only taking 4 classes this semester: Poetry Writing, Cross Cultural Comm, Gender and Comm, and Modern Grammatical Theory. So far...so good, I guess.
Forensics: I've qualified 5 pieces (Duo, Prose, DI, Poetry, Informative) to go to NFA nationals. I was really hoping to get 6 for the team... but I suppose things don't go as planned. If you want something done, you've got to do it yourself. We hosted State in February, and we took 4th: the best we've done in recent memory. Makes me happy. Now my goal is to get us a 10th place or better finish at NFA for small teams (12 entries or lower). Since there are 4 rounds per event, and you get points in prelims (1st-3, 2nd-2, 3rd-1)... all I need to do is average a 3rd place in my rounds to get 20 points (4 points x 5 events), which has been the rough cutoff line for 10th place at NFA small division the past 5 years. I feel confident in Poetry, Informative, and Duo. Prose and DI are the wild cards, because those end up being categories that are crap shoots; I never know if judges will like my pieces. I suppose that shows how weak those pieces are... I'll have to fix those pieces in the coming weeks. I also need to upgrade the Poetry and Inform, but thats another whole entry.
I can smell victory. My senior year in HS, I led my forensics team to a 6th place finish at WFCA State. My senior year in college, I plan on going out with a bang as well. If I pull this off... oh man... EPIC.
Julie: The only thing besides forensics worth journaling about. I love her tons. I can't wait to be with her on a day to day basis. I find myself wanting to propose to her... but it seems kinda weird doing that when we've never had the day-to-day thing. But we won't have that for a year. This long distance thing really changes relationships. I mean, we've been together for over 10 months. Emotionally and stuff... I am ready. But because of our living situations (she's in EC, I'm in WW)... it really changes things.
