a hell of a long day

Wow.

So I joined the 48-hour film festival thingy. Got cast as the lead role. We get together Friday night, find our genre, line, prop, etc. We can't come up with any good plot. So the writers pull something out of their asses by Saturday morning. We get there in the morning. The first shot we are taking is of me running near the wood cabin near the CA on the hill.

I run around the corner going full blast Ben-lightspeed. I stumble and think "Oh shit." I face-plant into the concrete going all out, scraping my hands and knees on the pavement and smashing my mouth into the ground. I know something is wrong immediately, cause it hurt like shit. Apparently, I chipped my tooth, bent other teeth back, busted up my lip, bashed my head into the pavement, took a gouge out of my left hand, and really bruised my knees badly. It was kinda bloody and painful.

People called the cops immediately. Once the cops got there, this one cop asked me what hurt. "Does your neck hurt?" "No."
"Does your leg hurt?" "No."
"Does your arm hurt?" "No. The only place it hurts is this little Hitler mustache area."

That comment earned me some good laughs from my fellow film makers, even though I was barely understandable because of how careful I was being with my chipped tooth. The place that really hurt on my body was my nose, under my nose, my upper lip, and my middle upper teeth: the Hitler mustache area.

So the police officers walk me to an ambulance. Along the way we pass a campus tour. I mutter, "This is what happens when you go to Whitewater." The police officer tries to stop himself from laughing, and the tour guide just keeps on going like we weren't even there.

I get to ride the ambulance all the way to the Fort Hospital. I got a little nervous riding, thinking about my teeth and all. (I hadn't actually seen my face yet, so I had no idea the damage)I was kind of scared. I thought about my parents, forensics, and Julie. Interesting.

Angie Ziobro, a friend from camp who was doing the film thing too, drove with the ambulance to Fort. I felt really touched that someone would do that... we kinda needed someone to do that, but still. I felt loved. She also sat with me in the rooms when they did tests and asked me questions. It was really nice to have someone to talk to and keep me from being too nervous.

The cast and crew came to visit me, as they just gave up the ghost on the film. We had trouble coming up with the story, and then the first shot of the day ends with the main character being sent to the hospital: they decided to call it quits. I felt bad that I ruined the opportunity for everyone else, but they were very supportive when I needed them to be supportive. I really did feel good to have people that don't know me that well to actually care. Once again, I felt loved and was very moved.

Angie drove me back to WW,... and to try and make this story shorter... I picked up some Vicidan from WalMart (prescription), managed to wrangle up a dentist to see me 8am Monday (that was a feat, let me tell you), and settled down to do nothing for the rest of the weekend. Brandi came over and we ate mushy food and watched movies.

Ironically, Monday is when I start my field work in the Lake Geneva Middle School. So I am going to show up to the class with a busted up lip and messed up teeth.
"Mr. Walker, why do you look so funny?"
"Well, I was in a movie, and we were filming an action scene. Since I do my own stunts, I happened to get hurt this time."
"Liar!"
"No, serious. I was in a movie!"
The conversation will be priceless.

All in all... it has been a hell of a day and Ben is going to have part of a fake tooth soon. Cool! I can't go to forensics meets looking like a carnival worker now can I?

I am going to go sleep like a baby hopefully. My head hurts and I am utterly exhausted from this day. The drugs have been making me sleepy too, but I've been fighting that until now. Good night and please, wish me luck at the dentist on Monday!... and that I survive Sunday without too much pain...
