It's been a pretty mellow/chill rest of the week.
Wednesday night was alright. I had a hair appointment -- I LOVE my stylist -- I love never having to try and tell him what to do. He asks a few questions and does his job and does it well. I'd made plans to go out to dinner with my parents, but they ended up having the grandkids over so we had dinner at their house. The food was excellent, of course, but conversation was a little hard. I'd been looking forward to having them to myself, and felt guilty for my sense of disappointment. I'm not always the most flexible when plans change. I enjoy the kids so much though. My niece went to her first homecoming dance (with girlfriends) last weekend. God. When I think of myself at that age. . .I just hope that she's NOT doing the same. . . .
Thursday I ended up skipping a meeting at night and staying home snuggling and watching t.v. J. grilled fish -- I think it was ahi tuna steaks -- with brown rice which was delish. I finished "You Don't Love Me Yet" which was good. Friday at work was boring and tedious and barely worth mentioning. I was very tired in the evening, and ended up reading a book of short stories by Tom Perrotta. They were linked stories, but a bit disappointing, as they didn't seem to have an arc, or add up to much more. Linked stories (Bobbie Ann Mason, fer instance) really need to get at another side of the person or situation. Trickier in some ways than a novel, I think. Solid writing, good characters, but we don't get quite as deep into the characters as in "Little Children." The stories seem more "put the character in an impossible situation in which there are no real heroes or villans but show we're all both at once" scenarios. Baseball was on, lots of baseball.
There was an OSU home game on Saturday, so I had to work 9-6. Boring, tedious, not busy. I maintained a decent attitude through a mostly blah day. The evening was blah too, but fine. The cats needed food so we stopped by Target. A brief shopping trip to Kroger procured dinner and doughnuts. Watch "Blades of Glory" which I enjoyed. Silly fun. I went to bed and kept waking up all night. Finally got up at 8 to take the pup for an hour long walk. It was really nice. She is a fantastic companion.
The other night I had a very detailed dream in which J. and I were at a strip club. We were at a bar in back, so we couldn't see the stage or action, but were having dinner. One woman kept trying to insult me, and I kept giving her shit right back. After a while, I left to go to the bathroom, saying I would give her some time to come up with something clever. As I walked to the bathroom, I realized that I was getting my period and didn't have product in my purse, and no one to ask. Then I woke up, ran to the bathroom and started bleeding like crazy. I love that our brains do that -- take real-world information and find a way to weave it into the narrative of a dream. I wonder what I would have said to the woman if I hadn't gotten up to use the bathroom.
