We played our weekly trivia round tonight, a much-needed relief after the last week. Once again, we finished in third by one measly point. We did alright as a team, but it just seemed like we were missing an important piece of the puzzle. There is good news, though: We have a new enemy! A group drunken of drunken "ladies night out" 40-somethings who tried desperately to emulate the Sex and the City girls, but with a west central Ohio tinge. They were racking up points very loudly on a late-70s/early-80s-heavy night of questions. Had we been able to come up with just two more members of the Brat Pack (how could I not think of Anthony Michael Hall?!) we would have triumphed. They needed to be put in their place. Next week: dead!
Got a new ID bracelet in the mail today. A little more masculine than the other one, and even though I have to hike it up my arm a little bit, it stays in place. It also makes for a great distorted-image mirror in a pinch. Bonus!
Even though I only busted out the old one for a day, I'm going to keep it around. Let's call it sentimental value.
Last week I got a chance to do something I'd wanted to since I started at BG in 2002. A very dear friend of mine let me co-host her radio show and pick out all the tracks on the playlist. I'd always thought of what I would play for my first broadcast if I ever got the chance, but I had to veer off of that plan a little bit here and there. The actual playlist from Monday is after the cut. Each one of these songs has meant something to me and represented a different time in my life (up to track 21, anyway).
One of them has taken on a new meaning recently. It represents an important moment of emotional warmth. For now, though, I'll keep that memory between the people who were there to experience it.
It was a day I won't forget for a long, long time.
The playlist:
1. "My Name is Jonas" - Weezer
2. "No Rain" - Blind Melon (all time favorite)
3. "Beer" - Reel Big Fish
4. "Waiting" - The Rentals
5. "Boom" - Bloodhound Gang featuring Rob Van Winkle
6. "Pluto" - 2 Skinnee Js
7. "Deeper Underground" - Jamiroquai
8. "i am a tree" - Guided By Voices
9. "Take Good Care of the Poor Boy" - Sloan
10. "Keep it Close to Me" - Superdrag
11. "Me and Jesus Don't Talk Anymore" - Beulah
12. "My Love is So Big" - Berserk
13. "Shooting Stars" - Ozma
14. "Where is My Mind" - Nada Surf
15. "Paper Thin Walls"- Modest Mouse

21. "Sun is Out" - Apples In Stereo
22. "I Was Born (a Unicorn)" - The Unicorns

I really ought to save the songs on this list somewhere other than my own hard drive...
