“Let’s head back to the action down on the field, folks! Looks like the Red Socks are in deep trouble if they can’t manage another homerun, huh Bob?”

“Yes Dylan, this is the 7th inning and our boys are having difficulty against the Cardinals, their opponents tonight. It’s eleven to nine at the moment, yet can they some how pull through? Looks like it’ll be a tough battle.”

“It sure will be but we’ve gotta leave them be folks-we’ll return to the game after a quick commercial break!” As that evening’s baseball game dispersed into a series of brightly colored advertisements, Nick chanced to look at the clock.

“Eight o’clock, already?” He inwardly moaned. How quickly time seems to slip away as one becomes older; the clock continuing to spin round and round, faster upon each passing year. The teenage boy leaned over, slightly bent in the direction of his sprawled out brother as the brown-haired youth leaned against the armrest of the sofa.

“Hey Joe, shouldn’t you leave?” Joseph’s attention to the moving pictures on the television set was disturbed by the sound of his brother’s voice which brought him back to reality.

“Hmmm…what?”

“You told Mom that you’d pick Kevin up for her, remember?”

“Ah yeah, I forgot about that.” Joe sighed, running his hands through his slick black locks as he reclined further back into the couch.

“Hah, that sounds just like you! How tragic, to forget your own brother!” Nick snorted

“Whatever,” Joseph snapped, playfully shoving the curly-headed boy’s shoulder, “At least I don’t take three hours to complete my homework.”

“That’s not even relevant, you know that?”

“So what?” The darker youth shrugged, “It’s a valid point nonetheless, and I bet you can’t win this debate Nicky, not this time!” Nicolas in question scratched something onto a cluttered piece of paper he had been working on before tucking it into his neatly-organized notebook that rested on his lap. He then glanced up, his eye brows raised at the arrogant features of his energetic sibling,

“Well Joe, some of us want to succeed in life and decide to actually do our homework, unlike you. Besides, I try hard and that’s good enough for me.”

“Psshhh, you little over-achiever, you!” Joseph set his left palm on top of his younger brother’s head, ruffling the curls into a disheveled mess. Nick nodded in approval, taking Joseph’s jibe as a compliment.

“Well I’d best be off.” He heaved his lean frame off of the comfortable cushions, grabbing his jacket and wallet that rested on the hall-tree near the front door. Before he grasped the handle, Joe turned around,

“Hey Nicky, could you-” He was cut off mid-sentence by Nicolas who called,

“Don’t worry, I’ll tell you how the game turns out when you get back!”

“Thanks bro!” Joseph then pulled the door open and proceeded down the paved walkway that led up to his family’s simple abode on the outskirts of New Jersey.

A sneaker emerged from the navy blue pick-up truck, shuffling against the thick gravel that skimmed off the neglected cement road as Joseph slipped out of the side door of his vehicle. Before his eyes the neon lights and window decorations that mounted the tinted glass of a shabby liquor store shone brightly in the darkness.

“This must be the place.” Joseph murmured, checking the address that he had saved as a note in his cell phone.

“Well, I guess it’s now or never.” He braced himself, mentally preparing for what lay behind those artificial walls. He hesitantly stepped forward, pushing the door back to enter the bar that his elder brother now frequently attended. A thick cloud of smoke swept up into his face as he crossed the doorframe and descended into the murky gloom, the offensive ashy smell causing his nostrils to flare in distaste. The dingy atmosphere, combined with the shady collection of people, put a sense of suspicion and apprehension in the pit of Joe’s stomach. He hurriedly passed a group of men who were lounging at the edges of a pool table near the entrance, their game interrupted by his arrival. To calm the disruption, Joseph offered a warm smile, which was met with fierce glares and frosty eyes. The boy decided that the best course of action would be to quickly find his brother and leave as soon as possible.

“What was Kevin doing in a place like this anyways?” Joseph mused, clearly confused as to why his brother had found solace in a hell-hole such as this. Ever since his marriage proposal was rejected by the love of his life, his long-time girlfriend Danielle, Kevin’s behavior and attitude plummeted, leaving him desperate, dejected and frustrated. His parents could not reason with him, as he was rarely at home nowadays. Fortunately, Mr. Jonas had given their family’s spare car to Joseph, in order for him to return to and from school and baseball practice on a regular basis. If the car had fallen into his elder brother’s possession, Joe had no idea if they would ever see or hear from him again. The dark-haired teenager pressed onwards, past the pool tables, gaming slots, bar rack and benches, shifting through the crowd of ill-looking citizens who were either down on their luck or attempting to make an easy buck. He inwardly shivered as his ears picked out distinctive hoots and hollers which were meant for him as he passed by the bar. He ducked his head and confidently headed to the back corner of the vicinity, towards a lone man slumped over a table.

Joseph slid into the booth across from his brother, quickly consuming a few unfinished fries that littered the tabletop as he babbled,

“You would not believe how heckling Nick can be when he knows you’re supposed to do something. But then again, he’s right, I suppose. Sorry for being a little late bro, I got caught up in the Red Socks game. Man, I didn’t want to leave! Beginning of the eighth inning stretch, ya know? Hey, you listening?” Joseph roughly shook his brother’s frame, slightly annoyed about not being answered. Kevin simply rocked to and fro, his scraggly hair dancing across his forehead with the movement. After a few failed attempts of waking, Joe dipped his hand into a pitcher of water that was resting on a tray near their table. He flicked his wrist at his brother, sending droplets flying as he shouted,

“Kevin? Kevin!”

“Huh? W-what?” A surprised gasp sounded from the young adult’s lips, his bleary eyes searching for his assailant.

“Guess who?” Joe beamed, his bright face filling up Kevin’s groggy vision as he leaned across the table.

“Ah it’s just you…wait, Joseph!” Misty eyes centered more soundly on the image of the boy before him as recognition followed soon after the appearance of his sibling.

“Why-why you’re here?” Kevin slurred slightly, perplexed in his drunken state.

“Why else silly? I promised Mom I’d get you home tonight and that’s what I plan to do.”

“J-just go away,” Kevin waved a hand in the air, his head bobbing forward as if it weighed twenty pounds, “I just got here.” Now it was Joe’s turn to be surprised.

“Do you know what time it is Kev?”

“Hmmm? Oh its-a- it’s a…6:30 or something, right?” Joseph’s eyes widened a bit as he stared incredulously at the older male,

“6:30? Kevin, it’s almost 10 o’clock!” Joe had left around eight fifteen but he had gotten lost on his way to this outpost near the docks yet he was not about to admit that important fact to his older brother, who probably would not give up the chance to make fun of his directionally-challenged younger brother.

“Aww but can’t I stay a little more,” Kevin requested, clutching an almost empty bottle in his hands, “At least until I finish this?”

“No…I’d better get you out of here,” Joseph caught the neck of the bottle and gently pried it out of Kevin’s clumsy hold,

“I think you’ve had a bit too much too drink tonight, buddy.” Kevin grumbled but made no effort to retrieve his stolen drink, content with his slouched position against the backboard of the booth.

“Come on, bro! It’s time to go, okay?” Kevin’s only response was a single nod, his eye lids shutting closed with weariness. Joe propelled himself off of the booth, sliding around to where Kevin reclined. He dug his arm behind his brother’s back and clutched him around the waist, hoisting the larger body out of the booth and into the walkway. Joseph stumbled with the unexpected weight of Kevin’s body, which drooped against him. Joe sighed, slinging one of Kevin’s limp arms around his shoulder and began the process of making his way through the cluttered and congested tavern.

Luckily, Joseph made it through without bumping into that many people yet he had to stop a few times and collect his bearings when Kevin attempted to walk in a different direction, either to the bathroom or back to the bar counter for another drink. The younger boy successfully maneuvered through the building, finding a back exit that contained an adjoined alleyway that led to the front parking lot where his truck waited.

“Just come with me to the car and I’ll get you home and in bed before you know it.” Joe guaranteed cheerfully, supporting Kevin’s weight as they made their way down the steep, grey stairs and onto the barren dirt path of the alley, covered with miscellaneous garbage, shards of glass from broken bottles and run-off sewage.

The cold night air refreshed Kevin, clearing some of the haze from his vision as clarity of state and mind returned to him,

“But I was planning on having lots of fun. I know some buddies who’ll be sure to show us a good time.” He winked over at Joe, who scanned the eerie surroundings warily,

“I dunno Kev, this isn’t a good place.” He eyed the neighboring stores along the commercial block, all of them run down and covered with graffiti and profanities.

“It’s just not the best part of town, y’know? How bout we go have fun at home, where it’s safe?”

“Pah, home, schome! It’s not fun there! Besides, I don’t wanna go home, I’m not sleepy yet.” His jaw slackened and pulled back, expressing his exhaustion in a large yawn, defeating the argument that he evidently did not lack sleep.

“Ho ho, you’re not? I think you are!” Joe poked Kevin’s cheek, smiling wistfully.

“I’m not tired.” Kevin muttered, ignoring the appendage pressing into his jaw.

“We both know you are so stop whining!” Joe tugged on Kevin’s arm, pulling him towards the opposite side of the alley.

“So what? You can’t tell me what to do!” Kevin sourly huffed, annoyed at being scolded by his younger sibling yet he ended up complying to his brother’s wishes. While they walked in silence, Kevin thought to himself,

“I’m twenty-one, right?” Kevin reasoned, “Doesn’t that mean that I am legal to drink and party or stay up as late as I want to? I don’t have to take orders from Joe, what does he know? He’s the troublemaker, always meddling in things he shouldn’t. So what if I want to have some fun every once in awhile? I’m allowed to by law and besides, I don’t want to go home now-and Joseph can’t make me.” Once his mind was made up, he stopped in his tracks.

“Ah!” Joe almost tripped at the abrupt halt. He turned around, facing Kevin, who was a few paces behind him,

“What’s wrong, why’d we stop?” Joe questioned

“I told you, I don’t want to leave yet.” Kevin quietly uttered, a dark expression covering his downcast face. Joseph wearily moaned, running a hand through his hair.

“Everyone’s waiting for you at home. I told them that I’d get you and it’s already been an hour since I left. Mom and Dad’ll be worried about us.”

“Let them worry.” Joe’s eyebrows rose with shock,

“What did Kevin just say? He can’t honestly be that selfish and self-absorbed to simply make their entire family worry about whether or not they were safe!” Joseph strode forward, grasping Kevin’s wrist, attempting to haul him along with him to the car.

“Kevin we just can’t let-mmphff!” Joe’s protest was cut off as a set of plump muscles smeared harshly across his own lips. Unaccustomed to any sort of assault, Joseph was unable to react. He felt the thick form of similar lips moving against his own, begging for entry. Once he caught his bearing, Joe quickly struggled out of the rough grip of his brother, somehow managing to break the kiss after a few moments.

“What the heck was that?” Joe smudged his lips with the back of his hand, rubbing at the pair of tender organs.

“Hur hurr…a kiss, silly.” Kevin chuckled, his previous anger momentarily lost between a fit of tipsy laughter. Joe exploded,

“Of course I know it was a kiss! I’m not stupid!”

“Then why’d you-you ask?” Kevin tilted his head to the side in confusion.

“B-because!” Joe scrambled for an answer, “That’s just not natural!”

“What, that kiss?” Joe nodded and sarcastically uttered,

“Duh!”

“Pssh! That’s nothing, I kiss people all the day.” Kevin replied, his grammar skewed, a smile playing on his lips as he rotated his head back, holding it upright in order to stare at his younger brother through a foggy pair of brown eyes, the trace of alcohol still not evaporated.

“Sure you do Kevin, sure you do.” Joe shook his head, embarrassed by the idiotic manner the eldest Jonas was behaving himself in his drunken state.

“Note to self,” Joseph mentally said, “Never let Kevin touch alcohol again, ever.” As if hearing his name, Kevin tumbled, leaning his forehead against Joseph’s right forearm, mumbling,

“Yup, kisses are good.”

“Not when you’re kissing me!” Joe retorted, glancing down at the figure pressed against his body.

“Why not?” Kevin questioned as he snuggled up into the warm chest, curiosity evident in his seemingly innocent face.

“Cause I’m your brother, that’s why!” Dark eyebrows knit together across Kevin’s pale forehead, announcing his displeasure. Abruptly, Kevin leaned forward, applying more of his weight onto his brother’s lithe form as his pale fingers tightened around the younger boy’s arms,

“If I want to kiss you, I will.” A strong hand slunk down and latched onto one of Joe’s wrists and pinned it above his head. Once that limb was secure, Kevin grasped the other wrist and led it to where the left was waiting, holding them hostage in a vice-like grip with one palm. As soon as he had his victim’s hands secured, he began walking forward, dragging Joe towards the side of the alleyway.

“Hey, let go!” Kevin ignored Joe’s distressed order, roughly slamming the smaller male’s frame into the brick wall. The back of the dark skull ricocheted off the dull, red wall of stone with a sickening crunch. Kevin took his chance while Joe was dazed-allowing his hand to strike and clasp onto the exposed windpipe of his brother. Joseph’s gaze was forced upwards as his head was flung back, his throat captured between cold fingers. His hazel pupils searched the wide expanse of space, trying to focus while all around him stars seemed to spin and twirl about in the night sky.

His breath hitched as he felt moisture and a strange heat creep up on the base of his collar bone. Once the universe stopped moving, Joe glanced down and out of the corner of his eye he spotted the tip of Kevin’s tongue lapping at his neck. His eyes widened as he inhaled a shaky gulp of air.

“What in the world was going on? Sure, people kissed one another but this? Ugh!” Joe thought, squirming a little under the weird sensations of a wiggling object against his sensitive skin.

“K-Kev…stop it.” Joe began, preoccupied with trying to control the spasms indicted from irritating the most ticklish spot on his body. Kevin kept licking, trailing his tongue further up the taunt neck; the corners of his mouth curving up into a smirk at the uncomfortable and nervous vibes that were resonating off his prisoner’s body. Kevin was not playing fair and he knew it.

“But why? Why is Kevin abusing me? Is it to get revenge or something?” Joe reflected back over the previous months, realizing that maybe Kevin was attempting to pull a practical joke on him, like Joe quite often did, in order to return the humiliation that he felt when he was the butt of Joseph’s humor. But enough is enough! A joke can only go so far and this, in Joseph’s opinion, had crossed that point a long time ago.

Joe was about to announce his displeasure when a single desperate hand crawled upwards and grasped his chin, tilting it in order for Kevin to ravage the unsuspecting mouth. Sloppy lips pressed against his, making Joe want to gag; even if this was a girl, it would still gross him out, Joe was sure of it.

“Ke-mhp!” Opening his mouth was the wrong move and obviously the worst action to have taken in this situation, allowing Kevin an open passage way for his tongue to dart inside. Kevin apparently had done this sort of thing before, knowing exactly how to twist and maneuver his tongue in an unwilling mouth. Sick of the intrusion, Joseph bit down; his sharp teeth cutting into the soft tissue. Kevin wheeled back, clutching his injured tongue. After a moment, he spat out some blood, wiping the rest that dribbled down his chin with the back of his hand.

“Oh now you’re gonna get it.” A wild light seemed to spark and ignite in Kevin’s eyes, engulfing all sanity from those deep orbs. Warning bells rang through Joe’s head, telling him to run as Kevin leapt towards him. He weaved slightly, skipping past the main bulk of Kevin yet his escape was cut short as he felt himself yanked back to earth by a strong grasp around his ankle. A shower of dust and cigarette ash covered him as Kevin tackled Joe into the ground. A grunt sounded as Kevin’s full weight landed on Joseph’s pelvis, pinning him firmly to the grimy soil. Kevin spared no time, swiftly yanking the edge of his brother’s shirt up as far is the fabric allowed, only to reveal a toned, flat stomach, pale as a lily underneath the moon. Kevin paused, meeting his brother’s frightened gaze, before he slowly extended an arm, reaching for the uncovered skin. Kevin applied pressure on Joe’s chest, his palms rubbing against the sensitive nipples, tight and rigid due to the frosty air. Off-handily, Kevin would squeeze or flick one of the light pink nubs, and then he would rotate his hands in circular motions around his target, his eyes never leaving his brother’s face, which was screwed up in a disgusted expression. He waited, all the while his administrations growing more harsh and powerful as he longed to receive a response other than revulsion. And then an idea struck him- one which he knew could not be ignored.

Joe gasped, momentarily stunned by the sudden warmth surrounding his right breast. He found Kevin’s face near to his own, hovering over his chest, his brother’s mouth enveloping the perky nub. There was movement, soft and slow, swirling around as Kevin’s tongue flicked and lapped at the responsive mound. Joe released a mighty sigh, not in defeat but one of perplexity. He closed his eyes, receding into the back of his mind to escape from the daunting predicament he had found himself in, a cross between unknown enjoyment and fear. After a brief moment, Kevin realized that his brother was devising a way to flee from reality. This only enraged him further at the thought of being ignored and rejected once again. He snapped down forcefully, biting the pinky flesh between his teeth. Joe’s eyes snapped open as an illicit cry arose from his throat, a cry of pain and pleasure. Never had he been so felt or groped before in his lifetime, making him unaware of what his body’s responses would be to such attention. Kevin merely chuckled,

“So you do like that, don’tcha?” Joe shook his head frantically, in denial about his body’s reaction to these unwanted advances. To his utter mortification, he was unable to restrain the guttural moaning that passed through his lips as Kevin continued to bite and suck against his swollen nipple.

“C-cut it out Kev!” He breathily whimpered, “This joke’s not funny!”

“Joseph, whoever said this was a joke?” Kevin replied, his voice low and husky. He hurriedly smothered Joe’s defenseless mouth before his younger brother could fully connect the dots to the real meaning behind his last sentence. It took Joe longer than Kevin thought it was possible for him to realize his intentions.

“Joe, you’re so simple-minded sometimes,” The eldest Jonas thought fondly as he traced the roof of the dark youth’s mouth, grabbing a fistful of hair through his passion as Joe suddenly began to buck under him, signaling that he had finally caught on to Kevin’s implication. Yet after a few minutes, he felt the boy’s body writhe beneath him for another reason- the taunt chest began to heave up and down in a plea for air. Kevin groaned, miffed by the limitations of the human form that prevented him from fully having his way with his young charge. His lips departed and settled for the rest of Joseph’s untainted figure. Kevin paid no heed to the intense wheezing and intake of precious oxygen on Joe’s behalf. Instead, he was content with trailing a finger, followed by his tongue, down the divide between the two plateaus of muscles that made up the pectorals, passing over the diaphragm, past the lungs and into the nearly flat expanse of an endless stomach. Once he had regained a normal intake of air, Joe became alarmed at the rapid pace his heart was beating at as Kevin made steady progress towards his vital regions.

“Kevin, stop! You have to stop!” He shivered as he felt pinpricks run down his sides, leaving red marks where Kevin’s nails dragged across the delicate skin of his abdomen.

“I will have you Joseph,” Kevin breathed, his hot breath running past the thin trail of salvia that coated nearly every inch of the man before him,

“And there’s nothing you can do to stop me.” Fear jolted down Joe’s spine as he realized how far this had come and where his elder brother’s actions were leading.

“Please, Kevin! I don’t want this! You don’t want this, I know you don’t! So please, please stop!” Kevin ignored him, sweeping a sloppy, wet tongue down the firm torso lying beneath him, his fingers ripping at the buckle, the only thing keeping Joe’s pants on his slender lower half. The torso, which shivered at the cool breeze that brushed against the bare skin and the salvia covering it, also trembled at the intimate touches that neared his most sacred and private spot. Joseph’s dark eyelashes fluttered shut, tightly sealing his eyes as he clenched his fingers into rough balls, the result of his desperate effort to control his body’s reactions to the unavoidable sensations filtering through his senses.

He grunted as Kevin’s knee unconsciously dug into said location, increasing the heat and tightness that Joe now felt. His lower lip quivered as his thick eyebrows crossed; a slight trace of pleasure visible yet covered with a blanket of remorse and revulsion.

“That’s it, I can’t take this anymore! Get offa me!” Joe screeched, kicking and scratching in an attempt to get away from his attacker. He managed to rise up a bit but unfortunately, his efforts merely fueled the anger and lust that was seeping out from the core of the young adult, who was no longer in control of his actions due to the alcoholic beverage that was streaming through his system.

“Shut up if you know what’s good for you!” Kevin backhanded Joe, sending him head-long into the dirt. His half-naked, unprotected backside made him an easy mark to knock down and take advantage of. Kevin climbed on top of the flipped over body, his hands clawing at the jeans wrapped around the skinny waistline. The belt buckle came free with a clamoring din as Kevin yanked down the only thing standing in his way between conquering Joseph that night.

His pale body lay in the dust, fully exposed for all to see. He did not stir except for his ribcage that expanded and deflated again, revealing that the boy, crumpled in the fetus-position, was weeping. Tears rolled down the porcelain, angelic face, now tarnished with sandy muck that had become a mixture of caked mud stained red with the fresh blood that was smeared down his forehead, due to a jagged piece of glass Joe had hit while the front of his body was buried in the heap of filth lining the forsaken alleyway.

“Please,” Joseph whispered, his voiced wracked with a choked sob,

“I’m begging you, as my brother, stop this!” The pained words caught Kevin off guard, striking a chord within his soul even through his bleared vision and impaired conscious would have told him otherwise. He blinked, confusedly staring at the mound of flesh before him huddled in the dirt. Joseph on the other hand put two to two together, calculating that Kevin’s pause would not last long and he would be fated to have his sworn promise to God broken by his own brother if he did not act fast. He slowly wiggled away; distancing himself slightly, inch by inch, until his was a few yards away from his brother who seemed to be in some sort of daze. Just as Joe was about to stand and make a sprint for it, Kevin gained control of himself, realizing that his captive was about to runaway.

“Not so fast!” He leapt forward, grasping a shoulder and pulling Joseph’s weak frame into his huge, tight embrace. Joe thrashed about wildly in a panic, and somehow, amidst the test of muscle’s strength and weight, he was able to wring his arm free. He flung his limbs about willy-nilly, and accidently swung backwards, smacking Kevin square in the temple with his elbow. The hold on him disappeared as Kevin’s form slumped to the ground, knocked out cold. The adrenaline rushing through his veins encouraged Joseph onwards as he stumbled forward in the darkness, feeling his way against the rough stone to where the exit lie. Triumph and freedom swelled up in his chest, making him want to exclaim his victory for all to hear, if only he had the strength or an audience to do so. But then again, maybe it was for the best that it was nearing the dawning of another day, for although Joseph had an outstanding amount of confidence, he quickly agreed that he did not desire any one to witness him in such a wretched state. That made him reconsider his actions as he neared the back entrance of the parking lot- would he want to be left in an alley way, drunk, bleeding and all alone? Heavens, no! Never again would he ever truly desire to step foot in an alleyway or even a bar for that matter, if he could help it. Yet how would Kevin feel, to wake up in a foreign state, bewildered as to how or why he was dumped at the side of the liquor store with a pair of clothes that would remind him of his little brother for reasons unbeknownst to him? In some other circumstance, this could have been thought as humorous, an amusing joke, yet this clearly was no laughing matter and no source material to ever bring up again, even for comical relief. That was his brother back there and although he attempted to abuse him, a twinge of sympathy and concern flew through his heart, forcing Joseph to relent…because that was his brother back there. He sighed to himself as an invisible force seemed to turn him around, propelling him onwards to reclaim the one who was connected to him through flesh and blood. Soon they would be home, warm and safe, surrounded by those they love and loved them in return. And maybe, just maybe, Kevin would return to them and realize that although his heart has been broken, over time it would eventually mend and despite the let downs, disappointments and failures we all experience in this life, maybe he would realize the simple fact that we are family, bonded together by the same genetic makeup as well as by the love of our parents, the love we share as siblings and by the loving grace of God who protects us all and brings all those who are lost back to where they can be found.
