This week has been one of my cooking phases, of which I really need to have more. There's been a pretty good tradition in the past few months during our Sunday game days where we alternate who cooks, so I'm pretty much good for a meal every other week.
Last night I made some fresh corn polenta with sauted cherry tomatoes on top. Simple and tasty. I'll probably be using the technique with the tomatoes again in the future. Just take a couple pints, some olive oil, and a hot pan and saute until tender and juices run, throw in herbs and do a little more.
Tonight I'm making a red pepper and tomato pasta with feta, for a slightly Greek style dish. I got a few pints of tomatoes at the farmer's market on Monday, so they taste pretty fabulous.
Both of these came from a mailing list I get,
No Takeout. I've had a few gems. It's important to remember it's not exactly 20 minute meals every time, but instead making tasty food instead of going out for someone else to buy it.
Once I get the back yard cleaned up (after PAX) I'm going to try to get some things planted. Herbs are first on the list. There was an article I read today about things that are much cheaper to grow than buy. I'd know about herbs, but fruit trees, lettuce, vine vegetables, and bell peppers were on there too. I don't think I've got the patience to wait for a fruit tree to give returns, but the rest are all things that we enjoy.
