Well, I finally got my stupid Judaism paper finished and turned the thing in. I actually got it done the night before it was due so I had time to get it edited. I only had two minor errors (one was a typo) and one sentence that wasn't clear enough and needed to be tweaked. Not bad, considering I normally hit print and dash off to class without even reading through the papers.

However, I got the grade for it via email yesterday and was not pleased. I got a 92%. Yes, it's a A, but only just. I really don't agree with the teacher on it. He found 3 flaws: I didn't include information about admissions to the Seminaries, my definition of "Orthodox" Judaism didn't match his, and a study was "incredible and dubious". I agree about the admissions part. I didn't include anything because I couldn't find anything. Perhaps I should have mentioned my lack of success in the paper. His next two points were absurd though. First of all, the definition of "Orthodox" that I used was not my own. I quoted and cited a book on world religions for that one. A book which he himself uses in his "Anthropology of Religion" class. Perhaps, if the book provides such inaccurate and poor information, he shouldn't be using it. The last thing, the part about the study, I also take issue with. I found this interesting journal article about how Catholic seminarians will typically refer to themselves as "priests" prior to ordination. They aren't supposed to, but it's basically like a med-student calling himself a "doctor": it happens all the time and is harmless. Everyone involved knows what the individual actually is and means. So I used this study in the section about career goals. My teacher's comment was "They do not call themselves Priests. Period." I'm sorry, I didn't realize that he had been there when the study was conducted and had interviewed every single one of the participants. I just thought it was published in one of the most widely accepted and credible peer-review journals on religion, provided a detailed account of the procedures used and seemed reputable. How silly of me. Obviously, I should have gone to a more reliable source. Maybe Wikipedia would have been better?

The thing that bugged me the most however, was on the last page, where he put his finally comments to me and the grade. "Kate-excellent paper." Kate. Kate! My name is not Kate! If he had bothered to read the freaking cover page he required us to attach, he would have noticed the paper was submitted by "Kathleen", not "Kate"! You have no idea how utterly insulting and rude I found that. Yes, Kathleen can be shortened to Kate. Yes, others have done so in the past, but not without my permission and not in something like a teacher's comment on a term paper.

*sigh* Ok, that's out of my system now. I'm sure I was going to say something else, but I can't remember what. And I think I'm going to be late for class. Damn.

Edit: I finally nabbed a weather pixi. Ain't she cute?
