That position at the museum that I wrote about in my last post? Well, the lady who would be my boss just called me to talk about that. Turns out, they're having a bit of a scheduling problem. The girl who currently has the job leaves on the 28th. Her boss also leaves town that day for a conference, so she wouldn't be able to start interviews until the first or second week of April, and then of course, add an additional week to make the final decision. But the job's critical and someone has to be there. So I was asked if I could fill in the gap. It would be an OPS temp position, and would give me a chance to try on the job prior to any decisions being made about taking it permanently. It'd be 40 hours a week, $10 an hour (I currently work an average of 20 hours a week for $7 an hour). The only problem is, I don't want to give up my current job if it turns out I won't get the position permanently. The hours at the museum are 8-5, and at my current job I work closing (5-9ish) and weekends. Weekends obviously won't be a problem, but I need my bosses to let me work 5:30 to close for about a month. Realistically, that half hour shouldn't be a problem, but it's not a normal shift, so I don't know if they'll let me. So now I'm incredibly nervous (because I want that job, damn it!) and the boss that I need to speak to about this (the sympathetic one who actually has a brain) isn't there right now and won't be until this afternoon. But then my main boss will be there too, and he is perfectly nice, until you ask him to do any more work than he has to. So if he thinks he's going to have to "cover" for me (which he wouldn't), he'll say no. But then again, I've had days where I've covered for other people at the last minute, and I've been told that it would be fine if I come it at 5:30 or even 6. So I don't know. I'm a nervous wreck.
