Life, such as it is

Wow...It's been ages since I updated. I keep thinking about it, but then deciding to do it later. But I guess I may as well do it now. Obviously, it's going to be rather glib, as I don't have the patience to go into much detail on several months' worth of happenings.
So here it is (or at least some of it), in no particular order.

1)Thanksgiving holiday was a complete disaster. I agreed (foolishly. Very foolishly) to pet sit my best friend's dog for a week while she went up to NC to visit her godparents. The first night that it was here, her dog got into a fight with one of mine. I should point out that hers is a thirty pound Carolina dog, mine are three great danes. Thankfully, it was with the smallest of mine (only 100 pounds), and I was in the room when it started and broke them up almost immediately. Still, her dog ended up with a small bite on it's ear. Things pretty much went downhill from there. The dog didn't even remotely learn to leave mine alone, and I couldn't leave it in the same room with my babies unsupervised. It was singularly the most hyperactive and disobedient creature I have ever encountered, and (since I couldn't leave it unsupervised) it had to stay in my room at night. The beast was freaking nocturnal, I swear. So to keep it from waking the rest of the house, I had to stay up almost all night with it. Which meant that I was sleep deprived. Which in turn meant that I wasn't able to function or keep what I thought was a sufficiently watchful eye on all four dogs during the day. That lasted all of three days. I ended up calling my friend up and making arrangements for her little sister to come pick it up so that she could keep it for the rest of the break. While she was understanding and apologetic on the phone, she was apparently quite pissed at me, never mind that I did it in part for her own dog's safety. We haven't spoken since. I've known her since I was 11 years old, she's been like the sister I never had since I was 12. Yeah. It sucks, but I'll be damned if I'm apologizing, because I did nothing wrong. She knew when I took the dog that I have three of my own and that it might not work.

2)I just found out last night that I didn't get into the Museum Studies program. I'm more pissed than upset about that. Ultimately, that program was more a matter of me taking the "any port in a storm" approach after my last rejection notice. But still...Who the hell sends rejections via email? Impersonal much? *growls*

3)My internship at the library is going well. Due to point #2, I'm not really sure I see much point continuing it, but the semester's nearly half over so I guess I'll stick with it, provided point #4 doesn't work out. THe biggest problem there is that some days I'm basically working two jobs: at the library from 9am to 3pm, then at work from 4pm to 10pm. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to keep that up.

4)Remember ages ago I had mentioned a job at the Harn? Well, it's coming up again. The girl who has it currently has become a friend of mine, and she told me she was planning on applying for a job teaching in New Orleans. Well, she got it, so she'll be leaving the Harn soon. Her boss then told me that she had given a month's notice and "I'll be posting the position soon, FYI." Then the girl (with the job) told me she'd give me a glowing recommendation if I apply and that her boss would be thrilled if I did. It'd be full-time, Monday-Friday, for probably close to four times what I make now, weekends would be mine, and I wouldn't have to work closing shifts until 10pm anymore. So fingers crossed.

5)I have discovered a new fandom love. Wait for it...Harry Potter (yes, IY people, you can groan and throw things now). Specifically, Draco/Hermione. Yep. I've finally cracked. We all knew it was coming. But you know what? Despite everything I had heard, everyone I've encountered in that fandom has been perfectly friendly, polite, and drama/insanity free. I've actually had a couple of Dramione plot bunnies. Haven't written them, but they're around. I'll probably attempt a drabble or two first. Actually, if anyone wants to throw out prompts (words, themes, anything), I'd love to try a few.

6)I HAVE A VIOLIN!!!!! AND A TEACHER!!!! As I've said before, this is something that I've wanted literally since I was four years old. So I'm utterly ecstatic. My teacher's wonderful, my instrument is beautiful, my playing...well...yeah. I'm getting quite good at Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and the A Major scale.

And yeah...that's a good start for now. Life is hectic, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed lately, but it could be worse.
