Different things can be good

So...

For the first time in at least a fortnight, I went out to a bar...alone. It was a Friday night, woe is me, there was a football game on TV, and I had nothing better to do. I was going to go to Applebees for the $2 Killians 23 Ounce drafts, but they looked packed to the brim. I'd been wanting to check out this place by the college - 3rd Base Sports Bar - so I did. It was pretty empty - including me, 8 heads. My kind of place. The game wasn't on any of the TVs there, and the bartender/partial owner tried to argue with me that it wasn't on until tomorrow - mind you, I had seen the first quarter before leaving my house. I told her the channel and proved her wrong, then got my beer. It's funny - you can tell it's a hole in the wall place when they charge me the import price for Amber Bock - a Michelob (USA brewery) product. They actually didn't have ANY imports on tap; but the did have Budweiser Select on tap...an interesting concept, which I plan to try next time I go.

So anyways, I got there at the 2 minute warning in the 2nd quarter. By the time 6 minutes were left in the third, the guy next to me - who had been playing the bartop video game the entire rest of the time - started talking to me. Pat was his name, and he was a pretty OK guy. He told me a few of his stories...I listened to a few of his stories. I like meeting people at the bar like that. Especially if it's a smaller bar with a limited clientele. Pat and I talked clear into Overtime for the game - he bought me a beer during that time...bringing my total for the night to 5. I still don't know who won - I'll find out when I'm done updating.

So, I was on my way home, and with the recent price jump for gas, I decided to stop and top off my tank at the cheapest place I saw on the way home. I pull up to the pump, get out to prepay and I'm walking up to the store, and lo and behold - I see a buddy of mine that I haven't seen in at least 18 months. The assistant director for the first show I was ever in. Mr. Scofield himself. We talked for about 90 seconds, he was in a hurry. He said he'd call tomorrow. We'll see.

Random thought: When gambling, there are low stakes games and high stakes games. When the stakes (risks) are high, the reward is always worth the chance. The only time it wouldn't be advisable, was if you walked up late, all the cards had already been dealt, and they were all face up. Notice, I said not advisable - I didn't say don't do it - there's always a CHANCE that fate could be on your side.

And that folks, is why I don't write for the fortune cookie company.
