on the identity crisis of my composition

Dec 01, 2005 00:11

Been working on my string orchestra piece for a couple of hours. I have managed to quote Holst and write a passage that sounds like Wagner, just in those two hours (and in the space of about eight bars). Plus, this piece already references John Corigliano and Samuel Barber. My piece doesn't know whether to be American, English, German, angsty, pretty, intese, subtle, or anything else.

I cannot bring this into lesson...the Wagner passage made me laugh. but 19th century german compositional devices sound so cool...

besides, my teacher needs a laugh, right?
