So, I was in town for Thanksgiving, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to hook up with many people. I was without a car, so I was at the mercy of public transit. http://www.sweeneytoddmovie.com/ had a lot of audio clips. Not half bad, I think. Helena has a light breathy soprano, so her Mrs Lovett sounds a bit like a drugged out ex-whore rather than a raddled wacko like Lansbury.

Johnny has a pleasant tenor - not as deep as the role was written for, but one thing you can say for him is that he ALWAYS commits 150% to any role he takes, and the clips I've seen have him waaaay over the top which is awesome.

And Alan Rickman makes Turpin actually creepily attractive - I saw a clip where he is talking to Anthony while stroking the books in his library. Brrrr. Yeah he's channeling Snape but who cares.

I was worried until I head the audio clips, but now I'm actually quite looking forward to it.
