Reluctant ramblings....

This past weekend was without question my busiest in months...

Gah. I don't even feel like typing all of this up. I've not been feeling the LJ love for the past few weeks, as anyone can see by my lack of entries. I've also had trouble with my internet connection over the past few days. Anyway.

So Orly invited me to the Doug Fir employee party this past Sunday. It was held on the Portland Spirit, which is -- what, a boat, a mini-ship, a vessel of worthy proportions? I dunno it's technical nautical designation. Anyway, it was very spacious, with three levels. There wasn't much in the way of real food, but they did have lunchmeats, cheeses, and rolls for you to make your own little coldcut with, and they had appetizers and desserts. The appetizers were hilarious. They started off with spanikopita (yay!), and followed that with some kind of cheez whiz on a crust of hard bread (boo!). They also gave everyone two drink tickets (and I ground-scored a third, because that's how my luck rolls), which means I only had to buy two more ;) The bartenders were mixing them a bit weak, but what else do you expect on a floating tourist trap, yeah? They had a live band called Karaoke From Hell, which provided for some interesting moments. Orly sang a Blondie song ('The Tide Is High,' appropriately enough) and impressed everyone. Which was hard to do because some 6' 6" drag queen went before her and made a hilarious ass of himself singing/mumbling/drunk screaming "House of the Rising Sun" and moaning about life and the general malaise of modern society. Ok, I added that last bit in, but if I told you that he was just slurring drunken obscenities into the microphone, how fun would that be? Answer -- very. But you had to be there.

Oh, and my extension on taxes finally ran out and I had to pony up $800 to the feds, and am getting about $150 back from the state. Too bad that see-saw didn't swing back in my favor, but we all know that game is rigged. Greedy bitches!
