My Belated New Year Message Arrives on LJ Slightly Ahead of Schedule

...so who says I'm bad time-keeper, huh?

Hey Guys,

Thanks to Pyraxis, Wolf and the gang for the Christmas Card!

Yes, it came to the right address, and arrived in time for, ummm, New Year . It was great to see all your names there in multicoloured ink. Made us both smile.

Yep, my response is even more belated. That's not by way of revenge. It's cos they sent me another horrendous Benefits form to fill in, and I've already had two extensions. I'm working on it whenever I'm not too ill to work on anything or else getting distracted .

I promised myself I would get in touch with you guys and have a serious catch-up once finished. But bugger it. This is getting beyond a joke, so I'm letting you count as a distraction instead :)

As for that form. Well, it's cos our wonderful, compassionate Govermnent is switching everybody over to brand new disability benefit called PIP. The basic idea seems to be to reduce the number of claimants and/or size of payments. So the thing has to be filled in with extreme care, being wise to all the nuances of phrasing. I have a 77-page independent guide to this , along with various other guides from various other sources. Cross-referencing is, of course a nightmare; especially given that I don't have a printer and yeah, my PC is still crashing, but thankfully not so often.

I actually bought , yes bought, Avast Internet Security last spring. Besides updating at inconvenient moments, and announcing the fact in an irritating, bright, breezy voice, it's got a habit of intermittently terminating my “free trial period” . Last time that happened, I noticed a sudden dramatic improvement in my PC's performance immediately afterwards. “Aha!” thought I, and sent that overdue “Stuff you” e-mail to Avast :)

I know, I know, shoulda bought a printer instead.

Ho hum. Back to the grindstone.

love,

Walkie
