Kaylee softly groans as she regains consciousness.
Jayne has fallen asleep, his head resting on her belly.
Reaching out, she gently strokes his hair.
He starts awake, looking up into her eyes, a grin slowly spreading across his face.
“Kaylee girl,” he whispers, tenderly caressing her cheek.
“What happened?” she asks, her voice barely a whisper.
“Ya got shot. Got ya in as quick as I could.”
Trying to move, she gasps in pain as the stitches pull.
Jayne reaches out. “Steady there, bao-bei.”
“Just trying to get comfy.”
“Lemme brush ya hair.”
Smiling, she relaxes into his gentle touch.
