As they approach Serenity, gunshots sound out and Jayne pushes Kaylee to the floor, shielding her with his body.
“Stay down low,” he growls in her ear, easing off her body and crawling forward.
He spots a place to hide behind some bush, and beckons her over.
Kaylee is frozen to the spot, paralyzed with fear and tears well up.
She was doing fine out on a job, but now in a moment of real danger she lets him down.
Somewhere deep inside she summons up the courage to move.
A shot rings out. Jayne watches helplessly as Kaylee falls.
