Got new issue of Mojo which had big feature on Beach Boys (and the cover CD was all Beach Boys cover versions) + interviews w/Rufus Wainwright and Fenella Fielding.

Also got Classic Rock - couple of good interviews w/Slash and The Cult and features on Jethro Tull beating Metallica at the Grammy Awards and Rock of Ages (apparently it's coming out in June tho' I'm a bit gutted that Iron Sky has been put back). Also T-Rex and X - X are a brilliant band from the original wave of punk bands in late 70s Los Angeles with joint male/female vocals - John Doe (I think) and Exene Cervenka (who's also worked with Lydia Lunch). I once went into Virgin Records & asked them if they had any albums by X only for the assistant to give me a very confused look and say "X? How do you spell that?" I love their song, Los Angeles, even tho' the lyrics are very nasty & mean.

Also read Sordid Truths by Aiden Shaw. It's a prequel to his book about his time as the highest paid gay porn star (he's also written some novels & a book of poetry) - it's all about how he was working as a rent boy in late 80s/early 90s London. It's actually a lot better written than I thought it would be but it only seems to cover a fairly brief period in his life and I would have liked a bit of a wider overview of things (if that makes sense).

book review, slash, mojo magazine, classic rock magazine, magazines
