[conventions|travel] The high cost of cancellation

As I mentioned yesterday, I am having issues with United Airlines. This first cropped up a while back, as discussed here: [ jlake.com | LiveJournal ]

This may be a stupid question, but can you just give the airline miles credit to Unnamed Benefactors?

No, they are specifically demanding the money refunded.

Perhaps someone else would want to buy the airline credit from you!

Is this a possibility? More hassle for Jay, of course, but.

Another possibility is fundraiser so Jay can give the "benefactors" their refund, then Jay donates the airline credit to charity. Net result, we donors to fundraiser have benefited a charity!

For what it's worth, I'd donate to such a fundraiser. I can't do much, but I'm extremely upset with the situation. I can't say I expected much out of United Airlines, because they have been notoriously shitty for many years now (particularly so to disabled passengers), but the people who paid for the tickets, knowing that Jay has terminal cancer, and then the medical emergency with an effective father-in-law, knowing the expenses that Jay has incurred as a result of his cancer and medical treatment ... that is just cruelty, plain and simple.

I'm not sure if you can transfer airline credits, but even if you can't, I would be all for a fundraiser, because this shit pisses me the fuck off big time.

All of this, +lots. I would gladly donate and be an Actual Benefactor, rather than . . . whatever we should be calling the Unnamed Apparently Not Quite Benefactors.

Just chiming in to add that I would also donate to such a fundraiser if you decided to hold one.
